What makes 100 FOTF Warren Spahn Elite?

FOTF Warren Spahn sells for 250k+ quickly and easily on the auction house. What makes him so good? 90/75/80 S/M/C is certainly top tier, but with only one pitch over 65 I'm not sure why he's so elite.

100 Andy Pettite is 80/75/80, with 6 pitches (two over 70) and he only goes for about 60k.

100 Randy Johnson and FOTF David Price are both at 100/70/75... and go for less than half of Spahn. Is 10 points of control worth significantly less than 10 points spread across Movement/Control? Is this just scarcity of elite arms?

Control is far more important than the other ratings in perfect team. Individual pitch ratings don't really mean anything (aside from the stuff boost if used as a reliever), they are already accounted for in the stuff rating.

You are also losing granularity with the 20-80 scale.

Spahn is 120/89/104
Pettite is 98/91/99

He is clearly better than Pettite and there is a premium on truly top tier cards. Spahn could have a role on basically every team while other guys you mentioned are pretty interchangable.

Do you think this is a good set of stat weights for analysis?

Stuff: 20%
Movement: 20%
Control: 60%

This of course ignores team strategy/composition, LH/RH, stamina, defense, and pitch mix - but could be a helpful basis for quick comparison.

Movement is definitely more important than stuff and should be weighted accordingly. The question is how much more important is control to movement?

Yeah and it's also very dependent on your fielding, catcher, and park factors - there's definitely not a one-size-fits-all weighting for the stats.

Thanks for the tips! Not sure you'll see this but if you do.. I'd love to get your thoughts on how a catcher plays into pitcher review/analysis. Is it that you want higher Catcher Ability if your SPs have less control, to avoid pass balls and wild pitches?

You always want high catcher ability. The 2 best are FotF Ivan Rodriguez and Campanella.
