Robinson: Modern Times
I want to return to the career format - yet try something slightly different.
So I'm going to drop a 17-year-old "Sugar" Ray Robinson in at the 1992 Olympics at Featherweight and from there try and work out how his career will unfold in modern times.

Robinson Progresses to Next Round
Harlem youngster Ray Robinson breezed past Soviet Ramaz Paliani yesterday winning 20-6. Robinson who dropped his opponent in the first with a shot to the ribcage glided around the ring only stopping to shoot lightening combinations at his foe. After a few days rest he will climb back into the ring and meet Brazilian Rogerio de Brito.

Great Idea
Cool Concept, reminiscent of some of Professor's Unis ...
Are you planning on having Robinson move up in weight class, as happened in real life? |

Yes I plan on Robinson moving up - he ventured to Light Heavy, see plenty of room to maneuver.

Great idea, I've often thought of doing something similar.
There's some potential mouth watering match-ups as Sugar Ray moves through the weights. |

New York fighter Into Semi-finals
Young Ray Robinson had to pick himself off the canvas in the first before rallying to another great victory at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. A right to the temple sent Robinson crashing down early in a round which he fell behind 6:2. Though the second saw a different fighter as the pride of Harlem became a whirlwind to tie the score 6:6, his opponent Romanian Daniel Dumitrescu failing to score a single point. They went into the last with everything up for grabs, and Robinson did just that as a short right placed his opponent on the floor, though he got up Robinson was not there to be hit and once again he failed to score. Final score, 14:6 for Robinson. What a fight!

Dominate Robinson Moves to FInal
A look at the final score tells the tale of this fight. Robinson 22, Reyes 3. The closest part of it was when the two touched gloves at the start of the first. After that Robinson made the gulf in class so great that were it a local ammy tournament the referee would of stopped in midway through the second - but an Olympic semi-final it was, and Robinson with victory goes into the biggest fight of his amateur career. There he will meet German Andreas Tews, a Gold Medalist at the previous games at Seoul.

Robinson a Knock Out - Takes Gold
Oscar De La Hoya may have beaten him to the post in claiming a gold medal by one day, but Ray Robinson made sure he eclipsed his fellow American by taking his by a knockout victory. Comfortably ahead over the first two rounds by a score of 10:3, Robinson seemingly having figured out his German opponent went for the kill in the third and that's exactly what he got. ---- With a Olympic record of 5-0 (2), Robinson goes out of the games as arguably the hottest property in boxing looking to turn pro.

Robinson Most Outstanding
17-year-old Ray Robinson from Harlem, New York City, today was named the outstanding boxer of the Olympic Games. "His technique is flashy but most importantly it's clearly effective, which enabled him to win this award," said the president of the International Amateur Boxing Association. Robinson, who hit the canvas once himself and had his opponents on the canvas thrice, twice putting them down for keeps, strategy seems to be using a great offense as his best defense.

Robinson Goes Pro
Olympic Gold Medalist Ray Robinson today announced his decision to turn professional. "I've just gone to college and got my doctorate so I'm all ready." Not 18 till next May, Robinson sounded full of confidence, even declaring he will be his own manager. "George will carry on as my trainer, but I'm gonna be the one making the decision as I'm the one who gets his head busted up." When asked has he been courted by the big-time promoters Robinson replied; "Well sure I have. They've all been just swell, making me all kinds of offers, but as of yet I've still not decided." The brief press conference ended with the question of when he will make his professional debut. "Next few weeks. Don't want to go stale. Now it's not just about prestige, I need make money too."
