The Raccoons swept the divisional round after having lost in the DS the previous two seasons. We outscored them 39-8 with both Boggs and Ichiro going 10 for 14 with 9 RBI each. Guys, save some of those runs for the LCS!

In the other conference, the Sluggers are up 2-1 on the Plattsburgh Penguins, but are having a surprisingly hard time with them. Their 1st victory was in the bottom of the 10th and after losing, they won the next game in 16 innings. Sounds familiar...

And game 3 goes to...Huntley! But it wasn't easy. La Crosse jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Yogi Berra singled in George Sisler in the bottom of the 2nd. (It's like waittilnextyear, with the addition of Berra and the dethawing of Sisler for the playoffs, knows what he's doing in Perfect Team...) Huntley tied it in the top of the 3rd, but no RBI was awarded, as Yaz scored on a double-play grounder by Arky Vaughan. In the top of the 4th, Griffey and Yelich smacked back-to-back doubles to give the Red Raiders the lead, and Appling and Vaughan did the same in the 5th to make it 3-1, Huntley. La Crosse narrowed the gap in the bottom of the 5th, as Appling singled in SUPER Ichiro, but Huntley got that run back in the next half-inning via a Yaz single driving in Yelich. Huntley tallied another non-RBI run in the 7th on a Smoltz wild pitch that scored Vaughan. Appling singled in Johnny Pesky in the bottom of the 7th for the final score, as Gagne worked around a triple by Pesky and a walk to Appling to finish off the Frogs with a scoreless 9th.

Phew!

Game 4. Huntley's Rube Waddell vs La Crosse's Zack Greinke. I should stop predicting things, but I am confident the Frogs will take this one, setting up a winner-take-all game 5 Walsh v Walsh rematch. Let's see what happens...

Raccoons bumped from the LDS; after putting up the league-best ERA, Coons pitchers were ravaged for 29 runs in a 4-game defeat. Perversely, the Rebels rumbled their way through a 103-win team in four games, scoring 33 runs and putting up two routs, and into Diamond League. That's sure gonna end well for them…

That also means that all my PT 20 teams will be in Diamond next season.

On the one hand, I will not be changing my nickname to JasonC23stradamus. On the other hand, Huntley will be advancing to the NC Sub-League Series! Another close one, but Huntley wins 5-3 (again) in La Crosse to surprisingly take the Frogs out in 4. The Red Raiders built leads of 4-0 and 5-1 off Greinke and Satchel Paige, but the Frogs showed their Fight by scoring a pair off reliever Warren Spahn in the bottom of the 7th to make it close. But relatively stress-free innings from Lee Smith and Eric Gagne closed the game and the series out for the Red Raiders.

It was an honor to match wits with waittilnextyear once again. Here's hoping, if Markus messes with Huntley's "random" placement again, it's so we can face each other again!

Now, come on, Nero and the Express, win game 5 and then take out those Momos!

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the D368 Division series, the YakAnglers drop the next two at the Drummond Destroyers. Deciding game 5 matches our 98 Doc Gooden against 97 SE Lefty Gomez. The YakAnglers are built to hit against lefties, but have struggled all season against them. The Destroyers have a lot of left handed power, so Gooden will have to be at his best to have any chance.

Doha won game 4 and 5 to get out of trouble in the division series and move on to the the Conference finals against the LSU Tigers.

Perugia is also in the conference finals after sweeping the division series.

P454: Sub-League Series Set

Sadly, Nero and the Austin Express went down to defeat in 5 at the hands of RealMadrid El Blanco. That sets up El Blanco to meet the Momos, who either were attempting to not have to knock off 2 whales on their way to the finals, or who wished to avoid RealMadrid altogether. Either way, the moment of truth is at hand...

In the NC, the Carmel-By-The-Sea Otters defeated the Saint Paul Fighting Saints in a real barnburner of a series, with final scores of 9-4, 6-11, 9-11, 12-2, and 6-3. Here's hoping Huntley's pitching and defense can rise to the fore in the Sub-League Series!

Gooden goes 7.2 innings and gives up 1 run but is matched by Lefty Gomez who scatters 6 hits and 5 walks. The game goes into the 12th inning when back-to-back doubles by the Destroyers put them up 2-1. In the Bottom of the 12th the YakAnglers start with back-to-back singles resulting in a man on 1st and 3rd. Paul Molitor strikes out, Harry Heilman grounds out 5-3, the runner is safe at second, but Maddox does not go home. Rocky Colavito is intentionally walked, loading the bases. Ivan Rodriquez takes a 1-2 count deep, but it is caught to end the YakAnglers season and advance the Destroyers.

Ugh. This one sucks.

Congrats on getting revenge for the 2032 PL series. It was a pretty close series with your Red Raiders outscoring my Frogs 15-14 even though we didn't need a game 5 to decide it. Good luck winning another title, even if you have to go through a bunch of Momos to get there!

By the way, it looks like the Momos' tank-to-avoid-strong-wild-card-team strategy has paid off so far. Although they are currently tied 1-1 in the Sub-League Series with the team they were trying to avoid.

You have to feel for the Belfast Dodgers, the Momos' DS victim, because they have 26 playoff appearances and no titles at any level.

With Xander Bogaerts' walkoff single plating Andy Van Slyke, the Rebels have swept their way into the Gold Series.

Thanks! It was nip and tuck the whole way; I am still surprised the Red Raiders pulled it off! As I mentioned earlier, it's been really fun matching wits with you twice now; here's hoping for more opportunities in the future!

It eventually hit me that the Momos were most likely avoiding having to face 2 whales on the way to the Perfect League Series, rather than just avoiding RealMadrid specifically. Which, I guess, if they win it all, good for them? I mean, totally disrespectful to the Dodgers and cheap as heck, but hey...

On the other hand, RealMadrid is now up 3-1 in the series, so we'll see if all that effort to skirt a challenge was worth it...

Huntley vs Carmel-By-The-Sea has been an exciting series full of drama so far! Huntley took game 1 6-2, but since then, it's all 1-run games, all the time:

Game 2: Huntley 5-4 (Otters break a 2-2 tie by scoring 2 in the top of the 9th, but Huntley counters with 3 in the bottom of the 9th!)

Game 3: Huntley 4-3 (tied 2-2 in extra innings, Huntley scores in the top of the 10th, but the Otters tie the game in the bottom of the 10th; Huntley finally pulls ahead for good with a run in the top of the 12th.)

Game 4: Otters 4-3 (Willie Mays hits a 2-run homer off Lee Smith in the bottom of the 7th to give the Otters a 4-2 lead; Huntley leads off the 8th with back-to-back doubles to close the gap to 1 but does not score again.)

Game 5: Otters 2-1 (The Otters' Ed Walsh [6.1 innings, 8 hits, 1 earned run on a solo homer by Yogi Berra, 1 walk, 6 Ks] and bullpen outdo the Red Raiders' Ed Walsh [6.2 innings, 10 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, 3 Ks] and bullpen.)

So, Huntley was up 3-0, but now it's 3-2, with 4 straight games decided by 1 run. Back to Huntley for game 6...

If you pull it off, you get to face RealMadrid in the PL series. They knocked off the Momos in 6 games.

And so it shall be Huntley vs RealMadrid for the P454 championship! In another 1-run, tight-as-heck game 6 against the Carmel-By-The-Sea Otters, Huntley raced out to a 3-1 lead, but with a 2-run blast from Mickey Cochrane and a 3-run shot by Willie Mays in a 5-run 6th, the Otters seized the lead, 6-3. The score remained unchanged until the bottom of the 9th, when, with one out and Trevor Hoffman on the mound, Huntley's Ivan Rodriguez walked. Luke Appling singled him to third, and Hank Aaron singled him home, with Appling taking second. Yaz knocked the Red Raiders' third straight single to load the bases. The Otters summoned Johan Santana to preserve the 2-run lead, and he struck Mickey Mantle out to bring Huntley to the brink. But Joe DiMaggio lined a single of his own, scoring Appling, and Aaron raced home and beat the throw from Mays to tie the game!

Then, in the bottom of the 11th, Santana still on the mound for the Otters, Aaron drew a leadoff walk. Smoky Joe Wood came in from the bullpen and was greeted by Arky Vaughan singling Aaron to third. With the crowd on its feet and the noise deafening, Mickey Mantle came through with a game- and series-winning infield single!

So, the stage is set. Huntley Red Raiders. RealMadrid El Blanco. Only one will win the P454 Perfect League championship. Here's to an exciting finish to an amazing season!

Nothing says Mickey Mantle like an infield single.

Your Arky Vaughn is having a nice postseason--I think he had a 4-double game against my Frogs in the DS.

Good luck with RealMadrid! More like FAKE Madrid! Amirite?

P454: Please Call It a Comeback

RealMadrid is halfway to Perfect League championship number 4, defending its home turf by winning games 1 and 2 over Huntley. Game 1 was a classic "that Cy Young is pretty good, huh?" as the pitcher award namesake teamed up with Rube Waddell to shut out the Red Raiders on 5 hits.

Game 2, well, I'll just leave this here...would have been so cool to pull it out, but alas...
