Simming Until Every Team Wins the World Series
How close is your favorite team's next championship? 1 year? 3? 5? 108?
Well, we're about to find out, because I am starting a new OOTP game and will not stop until all 30 teams win at least one championship. This could take 30-40 years, or several hundred, but we will sim through it all. A couple notes: -I am starting in the 2018 season. -I am starting on OOTP 19. If OOTP 20 comes out before I finish, I will switch to that. -I am unemployed, and will be remaining so throughout the simulation. -Commissioner mode is on. -League evolution is disabled. -Every so often, I'll post a season's results and any big stories. I'm not going to go into detail on every little thing because it would take too long, but I will show the full standings after every year. -I have several other OOTP games going, so I'm not sure how often I will post this. If it's been a week or two since the last post, I've probably just been busy, so bear with me. -I put this in Fictional Simulations because it seemed more fitting than Historical Simulations or Dynasty Reports. If that was wrong, I apologize. As of right now, the 5 longest World Series droughts are: 1. Cleveland Indians (69 years) 2. Texas Rangers (57 years) 3. Milwaukee Brewers (49 years) 4. San Diego Padres (49 years) 5. Washington Nationals (49 years) Play ball! Last edited by Brennan; 07-31-2018 at 06:39 PM. |

Last season's awards:
MVP AL- Giancarlo NL- Harper Cy Young AL- Kluber NL- Scherzer ROY AL-Ohtani NL-McMahon Major FA signings: Harper- TOR Machado- ATL Britton- SF Donaldson-NYY HOF voting- Mariano Rivera was the only one elected Now for the regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoff results... So the Dodgers win the 2019 World Series. That makes it so 2 of the 30 teams have won. |

Now the regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoff results... So, obviously the Los Angeles Dodgers win again, which is a little disappointing. It would have been nice to get Tampa Bay off the board early. 2 of the 30 teams have won. Comment what year you think your favorite team will win. |

MVP: AL-Trout NL-Bellinger Cy Young: AL-Sale NL-Kershaw ROY: AL-Ismael Chajon (fictional Cuban slugger who signed with Angels) NL-Masayuki Oshima (fictional Japanese second baseman who signed with Cubs- his nickname is "The Natural") Major FA signings: Kershaw-STL Britton-LAD Lester-TOR Stroman-CHC Taijuan Walker-BOS Hall of Fame: Mussina, Clemens, Bonds Now for 2021. Regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoffs... So the Tampa Bay Rays return to the World Series and deny the Dodgers a 3-peat. They do have Chris Archer and Seth Beer still, but I'll let that slide. There's hope, Rays fans! 10% of the way there (3 of 30 teams) I'm a Nationals fan...I have a feeling we'll win in 2043. |

Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoff results... So the Houston Astros win the 2022 World Series, with a lineup anchored by Yordan Alvarez and a pitching core led by Bryce Montes de Oca and Forrest Whitley. 4 of the 30 teams have now won a World Series. Comment how many years you think this is going to take. |

2023-2027
I haven't been able to post lately because I was on vacation, but while I was there I simulated five more seasons, so I'll just post them all here.
2023: MVP: AL-Harper NL-Soto Cy Young: AL-Severino NL-Gsellman ROY: AL-Jacob Pearson (MIN) NL-Jarred Kelenic (PHI) FA signings: Berrios-LAD Puig-ARI Betts-LAD Benintendi-SF HOF: Halladay, Helton Now the regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the postseason results... 2024: MVP: AL-Odor NL-Bellinger Cy Young: AL-Severino NL-Logan Gilbert (PIT) ROY: AL-Henry Gargus (CLE) NL-Jorge Magdayao (ARI) FA signings: Devers-HOU Odor-DET Buehler-TEX Paxton-TOR Donaldson-MIA Schwarber-TEX HOF: Pujols Regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoff results... 2025: MVP: AL-Harper NL-Seager Cy Young: AL-Dinelson Lamet (DET) NL-Shane McClanahan (ATL) ROY: AL- Austin Hendrick (CWS) NL-Braxton Ashcraft (STL) FA signings: Devers-PHI Soto-LAA Seager-SEA Albies-BAL Severino-TOR Arenado-SEA Lamet-LAA Jansen-HOU HOF: Beltran, Manny Regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoff results... 2026: MVP: AL-Vlad Jr. NL-Bellinger Cy Young: AL-Kenny Mendoza (CLE) NL-Chris Wass (SF) ROY: AL-Juan Terraza (DET) NL-Edouard Julien (COL) FA signings: Harper-STL Gilbert-BOS Faria-PHI Luke Weaver-TOR HOF: Verlander Regular season standings: Batting leaders: Pitching leaders: Playoff results: 2027: MVP: AL-Thad Ward (DET) NL-Kazuo Yamamoto (STL) Cy Young: AL-Ward NL-Wass ROY: AL- Tyler Solomon (TB) NL-Yamamoto FA signings: Odor-STL Giles-ATL McCullers-STL HOF: Miguel Cabrera, Sabathia Regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoff results... So the Braves, Diamondbacks, Indians, and Giants all get their championship, plus the Dodgers win another one. 8 of 30 teams have won in the 10 seasons we played. Here are the updated longest active WS droughts: 1. Texas Rangers (67) 2. Milwaukee Brewers (59) 3. San Diego Padres (59) 4. Washington Nationals (59) 5. Seattle Mariners (51) By the way, as we move further into this series and we get into purely fictional players, I may start moving away from leaders and FA signings and just focus on standings. However, if there's anything specific about the sim you want to ask me (like how a certain player did or what a team's future looks like), don't hesitate to ask. |

Using some simple probability tricks, I found that the expected number of years it will take for all 30 teams to win the World Series is 119.8.
In doing the math, we assume that each year's winner is independent of the next (definitely not true) and that each franchise is equally likely to win a championship in any given year (almost certainly not true). So, if anything, I'd expect the *actual* expected value to be a good deal *larger* than 120. |

Cy Young: AL-Quintanilla NL-Jeff Razo (STL) ROY: AL-Alex Greene (NYY) NL-Ben Thiel (MIL) FA signings: Bryant-BOS Vlad Jr-NYM Jake Lamb-CHC Brendan McKay-LAA HOF: No One Now the regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoff results... So the Pittsburgh Pirates return to the World Series and sweep the Rangers, who continue their playoff woes. 9 of 30 teams have won the World Series, while only 5 (BAL, COL, MIA, MIL, SEA) have yet to make the playoffs. |

You'd probably be interested to know that Rick Hahn was fired by the White Sox in 2019. Brian Cashman is now running the rebuild. Anyway...
MVP: AL-Lisella NL-Jonathan Horsky (PHI) Cy Young: AL-Dan Folkema (BOS) NL- Chris Halls (PIT) ROY: AL-Vicente Soledade (KC) NL-Lucas D. Wimberly (SF) FA signings: Ward-CLE Joey Bart-NYY Kevin Maitan-SF Gary Sanchez-PHI Ian Happ-BOS Jonathan Vaughns-CHC A.J.Labas-HOU HOF: Scherzer (Sorry, Tigers fans, he went in as a National) Now the regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoff results... So the Boston Red Sox deny the Pirates of a back-to-back. We are 1/3 of the way through now, as 10 different teams (CHC, LAD, TB, HOU, ATL, ARI, CLE, SF, PIT, and BOS) have won the World Series. Last edited by Brennan; 08-15-2018 at 05:21 PM. |

MVP: AL-Soledade NL-Devers
Cy Young: AL-Kevin Blanchard (NYY) NL- Chris Halls (PIT) ROY: AL-Rodolfo Puello (HOU) NL-Young-jong Kwon (NYM) FA signings: Seager-BAL Ryan Weathers-HOU Naylor-TOR Tatis Jr.-TOR Toglia-HOU HOF: Kershaw Now for the regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoffs... So the Red Sox repeat as champions. A couple notes (mostly concerning failure): The Mariners are now the only team that has not made the playoffs during this series. The Mets now have 10 playoff appearances without a championship (most of any team). The Rangers have 8. The Royals have now lost the ALCS in seven games to the Red Sox two years in a row. I am very sorry. |

Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoffs... So the Milwaukee Brewers return to the World Series and pick up a victory. So SnaggleJ, there's your target year! 11 of 30 teams have now won a World Series, and EVERY TEAM has made the playoffs at least once! |

Can you post a screen shoot of Ronald Acuna Jr career batting stats?
His career should be winding down or already over by 2032. I saw a only a handful of batting leader appearances so I am guessing his career was solid but nothing HOF or maybe even AS worthy. |

2033
Here are Acuna's stats (he retired last season). He made the All-Star team twice (in 2022 and 2027), won the Gold Glove in 2019 and 2020, won the Silver Slugger in 2022 and 2026, and won the World Series in 2023 with the Braves.
Now on to 2033. MVP: AL-Rodolfo Puello (HOU) NL-Thiel Cy Young: AL-Folkema NL-Mike Schulz (COL) ROY: AL: Juan Rosado (SEA) NL- Jorge Cazares (MIL) FA signings: Weathers-KC Devers-NYM Luke Leto-TEX Schwarz-KC Padilla-NYY Seager-LAA Juan Terraza-SF Luis Galindo-CHC HOF: Stanton (no logo), Cano (Yankee), Votto Now the regular season standings... Batting leaders... Pitching leaders... And the playoffs... So the Pirates win another World Series by sweeping the Twins. I knew pretty much from the get-go that this was going to be another repeat season, as 6 of the 11 previous champions made the playoffs. However, I am still disappointed. 11 out of 30 have won. |
