Tactics

So has anybody tinkered with the game engine long enough to get any decent tactics in place yet?

I feel like I had a pretty good handle on tactics in FHM1, performing well with different teams in different leagues, but so far in FHM2 I'm getting mercilessly shelled. Probably doesn't help that I decided to sim a season and go straight for an expansion team But still, the Las Vegas Gunslingers should be putting up a better performance than they have so far imho!

I can't help but think that the positioning of players has a major role to play as things currently stand but haven't really got a feel for that yet, so any suggestions would be appreciated...

I'm glad this isn't a "this game is too easy"-thread ... Seriously though, being a hockey beginner, I get beat up pretty bad as well. But that's part of the challenge I suppose. It's important to carefully adjust the tactics to your roster's strengths and weaknesses.

Well, I wouldn't consider myself a beginner at hockey tactics full stop, given I did alright at FHM1. And your suggestion is exactly how I learnt in that game, by making incremental changes and seeing how they stacked up from game to game until I came up with a decent tactical system.

But for now I'm certainly a beginner in terms of this new game engine

I guess what I'm really trying to find out is how to position players under the new system. How are people setting up to, say, overload the slot or place their offensive defenseman for a slapshot from a winning faceoff? Certainly with a new franchise it'd be useful to know how to maximize what little I've got on my roster. Not to mention it's a lot of work to reposition your players for each and every tile on the zone assignment map without knowing exactly how that's going to impact on the game.
