Are the Cubs Really This Stupid?

So I finished playing the 1906 season with the historical Giants. My SS was 35 years old so obviously I needed a younger guy there. Just for the hell of it I decided to ask the Cubs for Hall of Fame SS Joe Tinker in a trade. Figured I'd get turned down unless I offered them Christy Matthewson or some other comparable player. I hit the Make This Trade Work button and was given a list of players the Cubs said they would take for Tinker. One was a 23 year old catcher with one star for ability and one star for potential. I looked up his real life career and he only played a total of three games in the majors. When I offered him to the Cubs their GM amazingly took him. So Joe Tinker is a New York Giant.

Has anyone else ever had an AI GM do something comparably stupid in regards to a trade? Just curious.

Is your Trading Difficulty set to "Very Hard" and Trading Preference "Heavily Favor Prospects"?

I find that anything less than this and I'm constantly able to fleece the AI on lopsided trades. Plus, my house rules dictate that I won't make a trade that a real-life MLB GM would (probably) never agree to.

One thing in real life that might have led to the Cubs trading Tinker was the fact that he and double play partner Johnny Evers detested each other. Cubs management at the time might have wanted to trade away one or the other just to have some harmony in the clubhouse. However, they never would have traded Tinker to the Giants with whom they were arch-rivals and if by some chance they decided to do so they would have asked for more than a no-name catcher.

BTW, I was prepared to offer more for Tinker but since the AI accepted my proposal I figured what the hell. I think Spec Richardson might be the AI. Look up the name.

Playing the 1908 season. The Cubs have fallen out of contention while my Giants are in first. Received a trade request from them offering Three-Fingered Brown, their ace and eventual Hall of Famer for a 20 year old prospect named Josh Devore (who later became a good ballplayer) and my 37 year old SS who's now warming the pine behind Joe Tinker. I didn't have the heart to pull the trigger on the deal.

In recent versions I've found it much less easy to fleece the AI like this. I wonder if this is a case of scouting accuracy variance.
