How Unlucky Can You Be?
I'm the manager of SKA Saint Petersburg in my current game. I've just finished the 2019-20 season much too early. Eliminated in the 1st round yet again. Here's a recap of what has happened to me so far:
2016-17 - 42-14-4 record (127 points) - 1st in Division, 1st in Conference, 2nd in League - Round 1 vs Severstal (32-25-3; 93 points) - 4-1 series win - Round 2 vs Jokerit (34-20-6; 99 points) - 4-2 series loss - Eliminated by a team with 28 less points 2017-18 - 46-10-4 record (137 points) - 1st in Division, 2nd in Conference, 2nd in League - Round 1 vs Severstal (31-24-5; 94 points) - 4-0 series win - Round 2 vs Dynamo Moscow (40-19-1; 115 points) - 4-3 series loss - Eliminated by a team with 22 less points 2018-19 - 47-9-4 record (140 points) - 1st in Division, 1st in Conference, 1st in League - Round 1 vs Dynamo Moscow (31-24-5; 90 points) - 4-3 series loss - Eliminated by a team with 50 less points 2019-20 - 51-7-2 record (150 points) - 1st in Division, 1st in Conference, 1st in League - Round 1 vs Dinamo Minsk (27-30-3; 81 points) - 4-1 series loss - Eliminated by a team with 69 less points Crazy case of Washington Capitals syndrome here. Any advice on how to win in the in playoffs? I've been on the wrong side of a major upset for 4 years in a row now, and I'm starting to get tired of it. It's just kind of weird that I lose 4-1 in Game 1, come back and win 10-3 in the Game 2, then get beaten 2-0, 3-2, and 3-1 to get eliminated by a team with nearly only half as many points as me. My leading scorer, Mikael Granlund, had 4 goals and 2 assists, all coming in Game 2, and was shutout for the other 4 games by a team with a very mediocre defense. |

What about injuries? In my last season in the WHL I won the conference, but prior to the playoffs I lost my number 1, 2 and 4 defensemen and my no. 1 and 2 centers. Consequently I lost the series 2-4.
