Eastern League

Pittsburgh 10, Charlotte 2: Rookie Johnny Bench drove in 3 as did Andy Pafko, who hit his ninth homer of the year as the Predators stay in the hunt. Mel Harder (13-10, 3.39) allowed one run over 6 ⅔ in the win, striking out five. Luis Tiant (10-7, 3.73) allowed five runs over five innings of work to take the loss for Charlotte.

Boston 4, Memphis 2: Ted Kluszewski hit his 22nd homer of the season, a two-run shot off loser Danny Darwin (12-6, 3.28) in the second and Boston held on to maintain a share of the division lead. Kelvim Escobar (6-13, 4.37) allowed two runs over seven innings, coming up with a big performance in the midst of a difficult season. Wally Moon had four hits in the loss for the Sounds.

New York 7, Atlanta 4: Bobby Bonds hit a pair of homers (21, 22) and Rich Gedman added his 15th to lift New York in an ugly game that featured five errors. The Heroes maintained a share of the division lead to keep pace with Boston. A weird game in baseball’s weirdest division featured a fitting result as James Paxton, relegated to the bullpen during a rough season, improved to 10-1 despite a whopping 6.37 ERA.

Western League

Omaha 9, San Antonio 8. Stallions pitcher Howard Ehmke hit Omaha catcher Frank Duncan with a pitch with the bases loaded to force home the winning run and keep the Pioneers atop the division, completing a comeback from a 6-0 first-inning deficit after starter Gary Bell was battered and lasted only ⅓ of an inning. That forced Omaha into their vaunted bullpen, with Billy Wagner, Aroldis Chapman, Dennis Eckersley and Jonathan Papelbon combining to allow two runs over 8 ⅔ of relief, striking out 11.

Phoenix 7, Denver 3: Charlie Keller hit his 31st homer, driving in four, to deal Denver a tough loss, pushing them two games behind Omaha for the division race. Neither Phoenix’s Jose DeLeon nor Denver’s Bob Rush made it through the fifth inning. DeLeon’s an interesting case for Phoenix, which had DeLeon in the bullpen most of the season where he amassed 28 saves, but have recently moved him back into the rotation three years removed from a career season in 2024 that saw DeLeon - 99-100 for his career - earn Western League Outstanding Pitcher honors with Portland (16-11, 2.53).

Eastern League North

Charlotte 10, Pittsburgh 9: The Predators battled back from a 7-0 deficit after three following Gaylord Perry’s worst start of the season but fell run short. The Cougars got three-run homers from Manny Ramirez (31) and Frank Chance (9) while Lefty O’Doul’s 19th, a two-run shot off Bryan Harvey in the 9th, got Pittsburgh within one before Harvey retired the next two to earn his 10th save.

Memphis 7, Boston 1: Bob Feller fought control issues for Boston and Memphis made him pay, knocking him out in the 3rd and the Riders mustered only three hits against David Palmer and two relievers. Bobby Abreu hit his 21st homer of the season for the Sounds.

New York 8, Atlanta 4: George Scott (17) and Rich Gedman (16) each homered off Atlanta starter Lee Meadows to lift the Heroes into sole possession of first place in the Eastern League North. Red Schoendienst (9) and Max Bishop (3) homered for the Crackers.

Western League Central

Omaha 6, San Antonio 0: A pair of Stallions errors opened the floodgates to five-run first inning that included a three-run shot from Nolan Arendado (14) and Jack Morris took over from there, throwing six scoreless for his 11th victory before Randy Myers and Rafael Soriano got the final nine outs to keep the Pioneers atop the division.

Phoenix 6, Denver 2: Pilots ae Steve Carlton struggled, allowing four runs over seven innings, and Denver’s offense managed only five hits against Willie Mitchell and Rich Hill as the Scorpions deal the Pilots their third straight defeat, dropping them three games back of Omaha, who would love to wrap the division tomorrow before heading into Denver for a three-game set to close out the season. Chet Lemon hit his 17th for Phoenix, which has already clinched the Western League South.

Notes: New Orleans’ Carl Yastrzemski belted his 25th homer to give him 100 RBIs on the season, the second time in his four-year career he’s reached the mark.

Eastern League North

Atlanta 6, New York 5: Atlanta rookie Edd Roush has been overlooked sharing the expansion Crackers’ outfield with top pick Ted Williams, but Roush kept up his fine season with a three-hit effort including his ninth homer to lift Atlanta to the narrow win in New York. Roush is now batting .339. New York’s ninth inning rally against closer Joe Nuxhall fell a run shy, as Nuxie earned his 16th save in as many opportunities despite the shaky effort.

Memphis 1, Boston 0: In a pitcher’s duel, the Sounds’ Terry Larkin bested Boston’s William Whyte to win his 14th, throwing six scoreless innings to make Hughie Jennings’ sixth-inning RBI single stand up. Paul Hines had two of Boston’s four hits as the Riders missed an opportunity to even the division race with three games remaining.

Pittsburgh 8, Charlotte 1: Stubby Overmire won his 10th with 5 ⅔ of four-hit, one-run ball backed by Fritz Ostermuller’s 3 ⅓ of scoreless relief as the expansion Predators keep their playoff hopes alive. Chick Hafey’s ninth homer of the season, a three-run shot off loser Sandy Koufax opened the scoring as Koufax fought his control all game. Sammy Sosa hit his 41th homer for Charlotte in the loss.

Western League Central

Phoenix 6, Denver 5: The Pilots failed to hold a 5-2 lead and lost their fourth straight heading into a potential matchup for the division title against Omaha to close out the season. Joe Rudi smacked his 22nd homer off Bill Henry in a three-run eighth to lead the Scorpions’ comeback and make a winner out of Teddy Higuera.

Omaha 4, San Antonio 2 (10 innings): Rookie Willie Stargell made sure the final three-game set in Denver didn’t mean anything to the Pioneers as he struck a walkoff two-run homer off the Stallions’ Mark Eichorn in the 10th inning to clinch Omaha’s first division title in the ABL’s 10-year history. The homer, Stargell’s 21st, also pushed him past the 100-RBI plateau (101).

NOTES: New Orleans’ 8-7 loss to Las Vegas locked up the wild-card spot for Denver, so the Western League playoffs are now set. Seattle will host Denver, while Phoenix will host Omaha.

A new entry into the mix in the season’s final three days...

Eastern League North

New York 3, Charlotte 2: Luke Easter singled home the game-winner for New York in the top of the 11th to lift the Heroes past the Cougars and keep their hold on first place, trimming their magic number to 1. Rookie starter Terris McDuffie threw seven innings of three-hit, two-run ball, his only blemish a home run to Frank Chance (10). Sherm Lollar (10) and George Scott (18) got to Keith Foulke and Jake Arrietta in the sixth and seventh, respectively, after Charlotte starter Cole Hamels threw five scoreless innings, striking out seven but saw his pitch count hit 101 over that time.

Pittsburgh 10, Boston 2: The expansion Predators are giving their fans an exciting finish, that’s for sure. Ralph Kiner hit two homers (20) and drove in five to back John Lackey, who threw 6 ⅔ of scoreless two-hit ball as the Predators pulled even with Boston, two games behind New York with two games remaining. Boston starter Jerry Reuss was shelled, battered for six runs over 1 ⅔.

Eastern League Central

Their places in the postseason secure for almost three weeks, eyes left the Central race between the twice-defending Eastern League champion Louisville Thoroughbreds and the Memphis Sounds. But the division title is not a foregone conclusion anymore…

Orlando 4, Louisville 2: Jim Bunning won his 15th for Orlando, allowing two runs over 5 ⅔, backed by a two-run blast from Ron Santo, his 27th. Mike Trout hit a two-run shot, his 28th, for the only mark against Bunning, but Trout’s Louisville teammates couldn’t do much else. The homer got Trout to the 100 RBI mark for the first time in his five-year career.

Memphis 13, St. Louis 1: The Sounds got four homers out of their 14 hits, and surrendered only four hits to the Steamers behind ace Chris Sale, who was pulled after four scoreless innings, depriving him of his shot at his 20th win. The cause is unclear, as the game was only 2-0 at that point. Sale didn’t speak after the game, but the move by manager Bobby Valentine would likely make Sale available to start the first game of the postseason. Rickey Henderson hit two homers (25), and Judy Johnson (30) and Joe Gordon (23) also went deep for the Sounds, who have won four straight to close the division gap to two games as Louisville’s sat on a magic number of one for four days!

TWO DAYS LEFT...

Eastern League North

New York 9, Charlotte 4: The Heroes clinch the division nobody wanted, the Eastern League North, getting a solid start from Dean Chance (8-12, 3.72) and a three-run homer from Tommy Harper (5) to finally seal the deal. Manny Ramirez swatted his 32nd homer for Charlotte in the loss. Arky Vaughan, Joe Kelley and Denard Span each drove in a pair for the Heroes, who return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022.

Eastern League Central

Louisville 4, Orlando 3: Mike Trout had three hits including his 29th homer and Johan Santana allowed only two runs over 7 innings of work, fanning seven, as the Thoroughbreds clinched their third consecutive division title despite the move to a new division because of the realignment brought about by this year’s expansion. Rob Nen loaded the bases in the ninth but JJ Putz came in for the final out as Dave Bancroft’s frozen rope to right was snagged by Brian Giles to complete the victory.

I have begun doing broadcasts of the playoff games...here's the first one. Sound balance a bit off, but it's better in subsequent broadcasts.

Game 1: Western League Division Series - Omaha Pioneers vs Phoenix Scorpions

Eastern League Division Series: Game 1
Memphis Sounds vs Louisville Thoroughbreds

The Memphis Sounds (98-62) had a terrific season and boast the league's best offense, led by Rickey Henderson, and boast the reigning - and likely to repeat - Eastern League Outstanding Pitcher in Chris Sale. But Sale has his work cut out for him here as he battles Greg Maddux in Game One, and Louisville's offense is potent as well, led by Mike Trout, Honus Wagner and Frank "Home Run" Baker. The Thoroughbreds (99-61) held on to win the division by a game and forced Memphis into the wildcard slot. Will the home-field advantage prove key between these two division rivals?

Alltime Baseball League 2027 Playoffs: New York Heroes vs St. Louis Steamers EL Division Series Gm 1

The New York Heroes (76-84) won the Eastern League North, the ABLs worst division, to become the first team to make the ABL playoffs with a sub-.500 record in its 10-year history. But now that they're in it's a blank slate. It's New York's first playoff appearance since 2022, the year the St. Louis Steamers (91-69) entered the ABL in the first league expansion (the second of which was this season). This is the Steamers' first playoff appearance.

Had a crash and didn't reset settings, so Game 1 of Seattle vs Denver simmed in the background, with the defending champion Grinders winning in 10 innings on an Evan Longoria walkoff single.

But here's Game 2!
