The Chicago White Sox Rebuild

With the White Sox having one of the best farm systems in baseball at this writing March 5, 2018 I will take you back to before it started, February 26th 2016.

From that date until I get to the beginning of the 2018 season I will make only the trades and transactions on the date they actually happened in real life as close as the game will let me.

When we get to the start of the 2018 season I will then take over as the GM making all decisions on trades and signings. I will update the team performance every 20 games or so and add a year end recap as well as a pre-season preview. Here we go......

The Sox pitching staff to start the 2016 season
Chris Sale
Jose Quintana
Carlos Rodon
Miguel Gonzalez
Anthony Ranaudo

Starting Lineup
CF Adam Eaton
SS Tim Anderson
1B Jose Abreu
3B Todd Frazier
LF Melky Cabrera
2B Brett Lawrie
RF Avasail Garcia
C Alex Avila

The 2017 Season begins

Starting Lineup
3B Tyler Saladino
SS Tim Anderson
1B Jose Abreu
LF Melky Cabrera
RF Avasail Garcia
2B Carlos Sanchez
DH Matt Davidson

First 25 games have the Sox at 8-17, team pitching ranks surprisingly in the top 10, but offense is dead last in the AL.

A 17-36 record through June 1st, the worst record in the Major Leagues
Offense still an issue last in HR's and runs scored
Starting pitching ranks next to last, the bullpen is middle of the pack

Pelfrey's 9.31 ERA gets a demotion to the pen Kolmberg goes to the rotation with his 3.21 ERA.

Abreu .319 and Saladino .300 the only offensive bright spots

OF Jason Coats injured out 3-4 weeks, OF Jacob May called up from AAA
May 2th Ryan Rayburn was traded to the Pirates, he was hitting .156
June 9th Giovany Soto was released
also on that day Alen Hanson was picked up on waivers from Pittsburgh and placed on ML roster, Jacob May sent to AAA

28-61 through July 9, the big news is the transaction in July

July 9th big trade with the Cubs as they send Jose Quintana for 4 prospects,OF Eloy Jimenez, SP Dylan Cease and Inf. Bryan Flete and Matt Rose.

6 days later David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle sent to the Yankees for OF Blake Rutherford and Tyler Clippard

Injuries make things even more difficult as recently signed OF Alen Hanson goes out for 6 weeks and Yolmer Sanchez joins him and is out 5 weeks.

Sox call up a developing prospect CF Aaron Schnurbusch and 2B Bradley Strong

Jason Coats comes off the DL and Charlie Tilson is optioned to AAA

Lucas Giolito gets his first shot in the Show in Chicago as he makes his first start on July 19, he gives up 9 runs 12 hits to the Dodgers n 6 1/3 innings.

But comes back with 2 good starts to finish out the month at gets his first ML win.

RP Danny Farquhar
RP Mark Lowe
RP Jean Machi
RP Al Alburquerque

Melky Cabrera is traded to the Royals for AJ Puckett and Andre Davis

Dan Jennings is traded to the Rays for Casey Gillaspie

Finish off the month with 2 wins and no longer have the worst record (47-85) in baseball as the Padres and Pirates battle it out for the #1 pick in the draft.

Giolito has 5 starts in August, 3 quality starts and a couple bad ones including a 4 IP game against the Red Sox where he allowed 8 runs, 8 hits. His record goes to 2-5 ERA 4.95.

After Sox catchers have averaged right around the Mendoza line, Sept. call up Kevan Smith has hit .282 in 21 starts.

Notable September Call ups
SP Michael Kopech
SP Reynaldo Lopez
2B Yoan Moncada
1B Casey Gillaspie
CF Blake Rutherford
