Closing In On bib leaguer # 19,000.
There are Now only about a dozen more players that have to make their major league debuts before the all-time total hits 19,000 players in major leagues' baseball history. I'll keep you posted.

May 29 Debuts
Arcenio Leon, John Brebbia, and Paul DeJong.
I checked with the Vice Chair of SABR's Biographical Committee, which is the official counter of how many major leaguers are recognized. With these three players, they now have 19,002 players who have made their major league debuts. I believe that Arcenio Leon was #19,000. The Tigers played the White Sox yesterday in Chicago. The Cardinals played the Rockies yesterday in Denver. Both games started at 1:10 locally. Chicago is in the Central Time Zone and Denver in the Mountain Time Zone, so that means that the Tigers' game started one hour earlier. Both Arcenio Leon and John Brebbia entered their games in the bottom of the eighth inning. (DeJong didn't come in until the ninth). The length of the Tigers game was shorter. So it is logical to conclude that Leon's entrance was earlier than Brebbia's. Last edited by Cusick; 05-29-2017 at 09:26 AM. |

Arcenio Leon
Here's a photo which shows Arcenio Leon's face a little better, while keeping him in a Tigers uniform. From Getty Images.
P.S. On the right, finally a head shot in a Tigers uniform from mlb.com. Last edited by Cusick; 06-01-2017 at 07:15 AM. |

John Brebbia
This photo shows Brebbia with the St. Louis Cardinals. The one posted when he debuted on May 29 showed him with the Memphis Cardinals.
