State of Georgia as it's own nation
Following my Cape Cod league, I am creating a league in the state of Georgia that will operate as it's own nation. This is going to be ridiculously huge to accomplish, as there are 531 towns/cities in Georgia as of the 2000 US Census data that I have. The longest part is obtaining the geographic location for input into OOTP.
If someone knows of a quicker way to obtain that information other than manually entering in each town/city one by one here, then I would greatly appreciate it. As with my Cape Cod information, I will post the final data here on the forums for general use. Last edited by Kelric; 08-20-2006 at 05:44 PM. |

I can't believe I couldn't find it in a downloadable format on the census site. Must be hidden somewhere in there. But anyway, I did find the following site which has the data in multiple formats and charges $2 per state or $10 for the nation. Looks like it has all the information you need.

Damn, that probably has exactly what I need. But I'm cheap.
Thanks for looking at least. |

There are easy and free ways to do this. My file is at work; wait a few hours and I'll post GA as an independant nation.

Hooray. I have the population info and such, that was easy. It's just the lats/longs that have been tough to find (as going one by one for 530 places didn't appeal to me much). Just how easy/quick is it to do, by the way? If you have the proper information and it can all be worked on a spreadsheet, I'd be willing to start doing a project that covers every state. Send me an email address. The zip file is 311 KB.
It's drawn from a US Census Dept file called places2k.txt. The file can be seen here. What I did was just clean up the useless fields. Once you figure out using some of the very obscure Excel functions, it takes 1 minute to turn out the entire USA. Figuring out those functions took me 4 days or so. |

And.... done. Every state as it's own nation has been completed and sent to http://www.ootpmodsquad.com/
I'll create a new thread for it when I see it's been hosted. Last edited by Kelric; 09-06-2006 at 04:35 PM. |
