Stay put option not working
I was in the Diamond league and had/have the Stay put option selected but still got promoted to the Perfect League. How does that happen?

LOL that's not what it means but nice try
It keeps you with the same teams who have also selected stay put instead of randomizing a league. At the same level obviously. |

That makes no sense and neither does the definition of the setting. If you are promoted or relegated then you are not staying put. So, since it says you will remain in the same league if you were not promoted or relegated, it must mean promoted or relegated at the beginning of the season. Otherwise, the sentence makes not sense. By your definition stay put means you stay in your own league unless you don't! You are not staying put if you are moved to a different league.

All of the team placement options are within your assigned league level. With friends who are at the same league level, randomly with other teams at the same league level, or staying put in the same league as last year with other teams who also decide to stay put, unless you were promoted/relegated and are no longer at that level.

The text is maybe slightly ambiguous, but it makes perfect sense if you realize promotion/relegation happens first, and then you are placed in a league (within your level). You cannot stay put at your *level* - you will be promoted/relegated as needed. But you can stay put in your *league* if you are not promoted/relegated. If multiple teams in a league have "Stay Put" selected, any teams staying at the same level after promotion/relegation will be put into the same league together next year. Try reading the text again after separating the concepts of "league" and "level"; I think it's pretty clear.

Stay put means stay put. You don't stay put, regardless of the follow on language. If you can't stay put, it should not even be a selection. If you are promoted or relegated then you are not staying put. If those two things happen, you are staying put. So, the staying put option is not an option. It is all in the language, if you are automatically promoted or relegated you are NOT staying put and you have no option to do so. Last edited by adion; 10-28-2019 at 12:58 PM. |

Your original post was asking why you were promoted to Perfect from Diamond while knowing full well that your team was promoted and was not going to stay put regardless of verbiage and your understanding of it...
Continuing to try and argue some semantics game is futile. The only thing you should be trying to do at this point is find a time machine where you can return to 10 seconds before making your original post and choosing not to do it in retrospect... |

The OP has inadvertently highlighted a real problem.
As the in game text states, "'Stay put' means you will remain in the same league if you were not promoted or relegated..." This is a very straightforward description of an available option that can trigger when promotion or relegation do not occur. This description does not even come close to reflecting the true effect of the option. Not unlike the fully explained 'use friends list' option, the selection has no effect except that which is found in our relation to other teams in the league. Additionally, it says nothing about how much of the league - possibly ALL of the league - will be filled with random teams who are newly promoted/relegated or who did not opt to use the 'stay put' option. If I had to guess, I'd say it was a vestigial structure left over in some form from the original promotion system found in 19 where all teams stayed together. If this is not the case, then I have no idea how the game arrived at this messy crossroads of confusion and misdirection. Luckily, its a very minor aspect of gameplay that few care about and even fewer notice at all

Probably a better description for stay put would be something like this:
'Stay put' means you will remain in the same league as other managers from your league who have also selected to 'Stay put' if you were not promoted or relegated I mean, it's essentially equivalent to "use a friend list of everyone else in your league who has also elected to "stay put" (with the slight difference is that using friend lists can pull in people from further, if I'm mutual friends with you, and you're mutual friends with someone else, it's likely all 3 of us would end up together using a friend list, but if we wanted to exclude the other person, we could both use "stay put" and not have to worry about "unfriending") Last edited by Matt Arnold; 10-31-2019 at 01:55 AM. |
