Most games won without WS
What is the most games you have won during a season only to not win it all?
I just completed a season where I went 113-49. I probably could've won even more but my #2 starter got injured in August. Losing my starter was hard enough but my bullpen, who were sub 2.80 guys all year, decided to implode in the playoffs. After scraping by in the ALDS 3-2, my bullpen blew 3 games in the ALCS and I was easily bounced. The computer even game me a "perfect score" of 115/100 at the season over screen. It has a wonderful sense of humor.

two of the last 3 years I've won 126 and 120 games and didn't even make the WS!
OOTP16 is by far the toughest and best AI I've seen since I started playing back in 6.5 version

In real life the 1954 Cleveland Indians went 111-43 yet were swept in the World Series by the 97-57 New York Giants.

I've gone 97-65 and missed the playoffs by 7 games by division, 2 by wildcard.

It's been a few versions back so I don't remember too many specifics, but I was once swept in the NLDS by an 82-80 Wild Card team after I had won almost 110 games.

I went 117-45 in one of my seasons in the middle of a tremendous cardinals dynasty and lost in the NLDS. I think I suffered a couple key injuries at the very end of the season though.

132 wins in a 168 game season lost in first round being swept in 3 games to a team that finished 88 wins.

My best ever season in OOTP was a 108-54 output, but then got choked in the World Series:
Rebels 5, Raccoons 3 Rebels 7, Raccoons 1 Rebels 1, Raccoons 0 Raccoons 4, Rebels 1 Raccoons 10, Rebels 2 Rebels 6, Raccoons 4 No winning season since.

Just so you game GMs don't feel too bad, here's another real-life example: a club which had a .701 winning percentage—yet it finished 2½ games out of first place.
It happened in the 1920 International League season. It was a two-club battle between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Maple Leafs. Entering the final month of the campaign the two were in a dead heat. During that last month Toronto won 20 of 22 games. But it wasn't enough. Baltimore won its last 25 games in a row to take the pennant. The final records: Baltimore, 110-43 .719; Toronto, 108-46 .701. |
