The 1st Maelstrom Inter-league Tournament to be held Friday night
After much delay, the 1st ever Maelstrom Inter-league tournament has been scheduled for Friday night. This trial run will set the stage for bigger things to come.
The initial tournament will pit two All-Star teams from the New World Baseball League - <a href="http://www.uky.edu/~cfox/Baseball/Baseball.htm" target="_blank">http://www.uky.edu/~cfox/Baseball/Baseball.htm</a> - against two of our very own Baseball Maelstrom All-Star teams - <a href="http://www.baseballmaelstrom.com." target="_blank">http://www.baseballmaelstrom.com.</a> After a round-robin style beginning, the two top teams from each league will play each other in a best of 7 series to determine the Champion. After this initial run, we will begin scheduling tournaments involving numerous leagues in a format similar to NCAA basketball. We plan to have actual prizes for the teams/leagues who win. Until Pierre's editor comes out, we will be limited to OOTP3 leagues only, but it shouldn't be too long before we can open it up to all leagues. You can view the teams involved in this mini-tourney at <a href="http://www.baseballmaelstrom.com/NWBMtourney/league.htm" target="_blank">http://www.baseballmaelstrom.com/NWBMtourney/league.htm</a> Will Al Caskey, recent triple crown winner in the New World be able to hold out against Ted Williams of the Baseball Maelstrom AL All-Stars? Or maybe the Baseball Maelstrom NL All-Stars including Sandy Koufax and Troy Glaus will prevail. You'll have to watch and find out. For those leagues who have already expressed interest, you will be receiving another email shortly with further instruction. For all of you other leagues, what are you waiting for? Here's your chance to prove your worth against other OOTP leagues in the Baseball Maelstrom Inter-league Tournament! Send inquiries to competition@baseballmaelstrom.com. Thank you! <small>[ 05-02-2002, 04:54 PM: Message edited by: sporr ]</small> |

What more can a person say other than that is truly an awesome idea. I look forward to the day that OOTP4 can be used because I would love to see an Inter-League tournament like that, a field of 64, one champ from 64 different leagues, squaring off to find the ultimate champ. Way to go and good luck!!!

The Tournament has been completed! And the Baseball Maelstrom AL All-Stars were the champs!
We began with a 20-game series between the two All-Star teams from each league to determine who would advance to the Championship round. Orwell advanced from the New World. In the Maelstrom division, there was a 10-10 tie after 20 games. The AL won the 1-game playoff 8-7 as Hampton outdueled Koufax. In the Championship Series, the Maelstrom AL team swept the Orwell squad in 4 straight games. Most amazing was the final game which saw Pedro Martinez throw a no-hitter while striking out 17! You can check out the results by going to our site and clicking the Inter-league link on the left-hand side of the page. Future tournaments are planned to be much larger in scope and will also be in a different format, so keep watching for all of the exciting games! |
