Week 19 News and Notes from the Hardball Retrospective Expansion Era (OOTP 17) League -

Home

Frank Robinson (CIN) put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days including a .414 batting average, 3 home runs and 8 RBIs. For his efforts Robinson collected the National League Player of the Week Award. This season "The Judge" has hit at a .296 clip with 67 RBIs, 20 home runs and 79 runs scored. He has played in 115 games.

Jonny Gomes (TBD), a recent call-up for the Rays, merited AL Player of the Week honors while filling in for injured teammate Josh Hamilton. The 24-year-old right fielder hit at a torrid .800 clip as he collected 8 hits in 10 at-bats, 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

Juan Marichal (SFG) took a no-hitter into the 8th inning of the August 9 contest in Atlanta. Brett Butler spoiled Marichal's no-hit bid with a clean single, and the "Dominican Dandy" settled for a 1-hit shutout with 13 K's.

At a recent Rockies-Rays contest at Colorado Field, Garrett Atkins of Colorado took exception to what James Shields of Tampa Bay said to him and tackled him. This led to an old-fashioned bench-clearing free-for-all between the two clubs. After the umpires restored order, they ejected both players.

Today the league commissioner's office took action and suspended each player for 6 games, citing them for "inappropriate and aggressive conduct."
