Question about salary demands from elite closer

Repost of my question from reddit:

Isn't that demand absurdly low relative to his performance?

Generally speaking, relievers always to seem to ask for low amounts in my experience.

I've found the opposite. Usually relievers ask for exorbitant amounts at the start of free agency, but lower their demands as January and February roll around, just like real life. With his numbers and relative young age I'm shocked that is his asking price in November.

The only thing I can think of is that it's 2043. Has something happened to devalue relievers/closers in your league? Did you mess with any settings at all? I know you said financials are default, but if you changed other settings it could have a trickle down effect.

I haven't changed anything, so it's the default settings. I think relievers in general seem to have lower asking prices compared to their output but this pitcher in particular seems excessive. I want to sign him and then trade him at the deadline for prospects but I'm putting a house rule on that one :/

Ratings. If stats were valued more in your AI evaluation, I’m certain he would ask for more. He’s probably asking for the amount his talent suggests.

My scout and the OOTP ratings both had him as 5/5 stars though? Is that relevant for contract demands? Or does AI evaluation for contract demands work differently?

As one person said on Reddit, it could be tied to his greed rating. He'll likely get bid up during free agency.

Well since he’s a closer/RP, he may not be a true 5/5 player. Relievers OVR get a bump.

Did you change the AI evaluation settings? League menu>League Settings>AI & Eval (I think that’s what it’s called. Third tab from left on top.). If the answer is no, that’s a possible reason why, because the default is 65% of evaluation is based on ratings.
