Any Tips for Improving Accuracy of Historical Simulations?
I started in 1901 and played through 1904. I set the game so that the stats are based on the current season only. Star players largely performed as they did in real life, but there were too many outliers among the mediocre performers, particularly the pitchers.
For instance, pitchers who threw 40 innings with ERAs of 5 or more, and who did not enjoy significant careers, finished among the top 10 in ERA and other important pitching metrics in each season and each league. In 1903, Fred Mitchell won the Pitcher of the Year award while leading the league with a 1.67 e.r.a. In real life, his e.r.a. was 4.48, and it was not unusual to see pitchers with e.r.a.'s of 5.00 registering e.r.a's under 3 or even 2. Is there anything I can do while setting up to avoid or greatly limit these statistical anomalies? |

On Historical setup - advanced you can choose to make this kind of player suck. You have two suckage modifier choices. Use whichever one you wish to create your particular preferance for suckageness.
