Shark Season (phase one)

Well, the second worst month of the schedule is over. Only 2 games left to lose in June. Then things should remain (relatively) calm until the next big shark feast in Sep.

Division 5th Overall t-22nd, 34-46 .425
Relegation Watch: +3½ games over the current death line (.383).

Sadly, we’ll probably make some games up and avoid a nice relaxing Diamond vacation. But September gives us another shot at it!

Winning streak? hahaha

Lot of home games in the past month, not many sharks. We’ve climbed back out of the cellar briefly, just waiting for the September bloodbath.

.667 for July, 51-55, .481, Division 4th Overall 14th. Relegation Line +9½, the Diamond vacation trip is still well within range with 56 games to play. Estimated wins remaining against schedule strength–24.

Which would make for a 75 (.462) win season, if we play up to the expected results, a few games over the current Death Line.

Don’t worry, the some of the smaller sharks will be back near the shore next month, and attacks will continue intensifying right up until the last game.

No diamond vacation this season

Sadly, even if we lose every remaining game, we might not reach the Line of Death for relegation. We’d still be about a game up.

Which means the wildcard is out of reach, the division is out of reach, a nice relaxing vacation is out of reach, and we finish somewhere (who cares where, exactly) in the middle of the pack.

Completed a couple of Braves missions, yay, but the rewards suck and the players won’t make the team. Maybe someone in there helps out Team Terrigold, but I doubt it. Ron Acuna 89 or Joe Torre 88? Don’t think Ron pushes Bonds out of left, don’t think Torre pushes Pudge. Strawberry 89 makes team Terrigold.

65-68, .489. Division 4th Overall 14th. 36 games back, 11GB in wildcard. Nowheresville.

Pessimistic Projection Model™ says we finish around 79 wins. Remaining schedule strength model says 76. Neither result would be remarkable.

Looks like OOTP XX will go out with a damp fizzle.

New Faces:
Tim Salmon (returns to the lineup after many years [with a much better card])
Mike Trout
Lonnie Smith

Lincoln Park Pirates sounds right to me.

Doc Gooden on the starting staff. With a monocle instead of a patch.

The Month of Teethus Maximus

Is finally over. Penguins finished in a typically mediocre position.

The season performed exactly as scripted back in May.

PeL sure is exciting and unpredictable, ya’ll.

Tomato is going to the playoffs in the wildcard spot (92 win season). So at least we'll have something to watch in this post-season.

Assuming they survive the wildcard randomizer round.

Tomato won division, then went down 2-4 in the subleague.

Now we get to be abused by diamond teams already carrying multple perfect cards.

They really have no business going higher than gold, yet.

Might be time for more defensive training.

Rajah and the K-rod

Our old friends Paragon City again, we’ve shared a league with them before. Tubloidial Buttsnoit, too. I don’t think we’ve been in P475 before, just a reunion sponsored by RNGesus, I guess.

I don’t see too many obvious sharks in these waters. That would certainly be a nice change of pace. I’ll tear apart the schedule next month (tomorrow), eyeballs a little droopy this morning.

12-14, Division 3, Overall 18. Not a hot start, hopefully it’s just the spring training rust. Ryan’s being a Walk Machine and hence getting hammered hard–we’ve warned you what happens when you can’t find the plate, Nolan.

But Max isn’t pitching much better. The whole staff took a pummeling this last month.

We’ve brought in Rogers Hornsby to whack some lefties, and Francisco Rodriguez because the reshuffle created a roster spot. We may have seen the last of Dihigo after 15 or 20 seasons, thank you Martin for keeping us afloat so long. Giles becomes our utility infielder and defensive replacement–Hornsby is not exactly a wizard with a glove.

Jun 4

.536 for May. Season record 27-27 (.500), Division 3 Overall 14. 5 GB.

Two guys in front of me fielding subjectively better teams (Paragon and Buttsnoit). But they aren’t pulling so far ahead that they’re out of reach (not yet, they should be soon.)

Jun and Sept will be the worst months of the season, just like last year. Budapest comes to visit in June, the nearest thing to a Great White on the schedule and current #1 seed. Seven grueling games, which is a pretty Big Bite to take this early in the season.

Honestly, I'm rapidly losing interest in almost everything related to XX. The Penguins seem fairly eager to go on perpetual autopilot.

Thar she blows

Well, as expected June was shark month. We dropped 7 of 7 to the Great White (no surprise). Otherwise, not too awful, and we’re done with the Great White for the season.

So we’ve bottomed out, and hopefully climb slowly back out of the hole until September (the next major shark attack).

37-45 (.451) Division 4 Overall 21 Division -9 Vacation +6. Nowhere land. Pessimistic Projection™ says 76 wins this season, but the error range is enormous at this point. Remaining Schedule model agrees at 76 wins.

Looking forward to mothballing all three teams for XX End of Days when this season ends. Which means: neutral park factors, neutral strategy factors, full AI control over rosters, etc. Autopilot engaged.

And will close the book on reporting for all three teams, as well. I will shift the blog over to setup for next seasons’ teams. Logos already designed, coming soon!

Knowhere

.520 for July. Division 5 Overall 20 Division -11 Wildcard -10 Vacation +7.

Pessimistic Projection™ stands at 75 wins. Schedule Strength predicts 74.

It’s looking unlikely that we move far enough up or far enough down to make any difference to anyone, although it’s still possible in theory.

The fireworks are damp. Only 54 games to play until XX End of Days mothballs.

Hot fun in the summertime

Well, the chillybirds seem pretty focused on proving the sports writers correct, and never playing much better or worse than projected.

A Working definition of Nowhere in PeL—62-72, .463. Division t-4, Overall t-19. Division lead -14½ Wildcard -14½ Vacation +9½. 28 games to play.

If we lose every remaining game and the Nuggets win ten or so, a Diamond vacation is still technically possible. But it’s an enormous long shot (3.6 million : 1).

If we win every remaining game, we make it to 90 wins and (possibly) win the division in glorious comeback (about 200 million : 1).

Pessimistic Projection™ says 76 wins, Schedule Strength says 75.

We could affect the pennant race by winning or losing a lot of the remaining games to Buttsnoit (6 games, 3 each home/road). We are currently 8-5 vs Buttsnoit for the season.

But there’s essentially no way that the Penguins could finish in any way that’s meaningful for the Penguins.

Only 28 games to play until XX End of Days mothballs.

Damp fizzle

2066: 73-89 (.451) Division 4th Overall 19th

The New Orleans Penguins official historical record (under active management):
22 seasons, 12 playoffs, 3 titles 2066-1823 (.531)
Perfect 12 seasons, 3 playoffs, 0 titles

We now turn full control over roster, lineups, pitching staff and reserves to the bench coach, Alexis Infante. Good luck to him. His first moves included promoting Sale, Finley, Allen, Clarke, and Turner. He doesn’t seem to value defense very highly.

Strategies, lineups, and ballpark factors all reset to neutral.

That’s a wrap for OOTP XX, folks.

My thanks to all of the players frequenting Dynasty Reports and New Orleans Penguins fans everywhere! And to all the lovable misfits who ever wore a tuxedo.

See you in OOTP 21 March 20, 2020.
