help improve batting stats?

hi so ive been playing PT for a few months now. my individual batting stats seem to be substantially lower than my league opponents. I have what I consider to be a solid team. few 100s, high diamonds etc. ive even noticed in the leagues im in that someone has a player dominating the league and its one of the same exact players I have. So as far as I can tell the only thing that effects hitting is hit & run. but as a comparison I don't lead the league in any stats. the same 97 rated jeff bagwell his best season for me has been .299 with 27 hr's. and somone in same league is getting 340 or something and 45+ homers. so is it really just random or am I missing something? thanks for all help in advanced
