Season 5 (2023) Discussion: 12/31/18-1/6/19

Here we go Season 5.

I wasn't able to check this morning but I believe both my Winterfell Direwolves and Macon County Cardinals will be in Gold leagues this season.

The Direwolves are coming off two last place finishes. Pitching has been their weak point and probably will be again until I can build up enough points to upgrade a rotation who I still believe is under performing.

The Macon County Cardinals are coming off winning their division in Silver with the best record in the league but losing in the first round of the playoffs. They should move up to Gold this season where their pitching staff will most likely be their weak spot. Upgrades to the rotation (Gibson and Dizzy Dean) are prohibitively expensive and good cardinal bullpen arms are rare.

It looks like your Winterfell team is in Gold .292, and your Macon County Cardinals are in Gold .285 according to the Manager screen. Good luck in Gold!

Thanks for the info. Here is hoping that at least one of them can be competitive this season.

The Raccoons moved up to Diamond and... will be murdered. I better stock up on band-aids; we're gonna need them.

We stayed in Gold (Gold .304) and rightfully so ... a 84-78 record most likely would have meant 100 losses on the diamond level

After going 75-87 in Diamond last year, I stayed put. My division this year has 2 teams promoted from Gold and 2 other Diamond teams that were under .500 last year.

I hope it's as competitive as it looks. Being 30 games out all year to a SuperTeam gets boring.

Holy ****.

In my Diamond League, Lance McCullers threw a no-hitter on Opening Day. The next game, McCulllers team got no-hit by Roy Oswalt. These weren't my teams, but that's never happened, has it? Teams trading no-hitters on back to back nights??

September 17-18, 1968. SFG Gaylord Perry no-hit the Cardinals first, then STL Ray Washburn no-hit the Giants the following day.

I avoided relegation and stayed in Diamond... but changed divisions for some strange reason.

Thought it was a good year to relocate my team into the city, so now the Hamilton Rockin' Raccoons are the Don Valley Dinos.

Ah my naive younger days (okay - just this morning) when I thought that Pitching would be what held my Macon County Cardinals back.

I realize these hitters are too good for this to continue but this is just a collective "Yuck" at this point. 1-8 to start the season after winning their division in silver.

Despite being involved in game 163 to determine the wildcard, I remain in silver again this season (only 8 teams promoted this cycle, and the other conference was much stronger).

Currently 4-5. As per last season, the team has started off slow in pretty much every area.

Am trying a new strategy, at least for the first month or so. Leading off with Topsy Hartsel against RHP (he has 93 eye vs RHP). If he doesn't work out (he isn't so far), then I'll go back to 81 contact, 90 avoid K Matty Alou.

Added Jim Abbott to my rotation (replacing Kent Mercker). Abbott threw a shutout his first game, fanning 10, then was brought back to earth his last start, scattering 7 runs over 5 innings while striking out nobody. Grabbed Mark Langston and converted him to a bullpen arm, and decided to give Dan Quisenberry an extended run in the pen (the 64OVR version). 78 movement and 97 control aren't to be sneezed at!

Topsy Hartsel, who is probably going to strike out looking an awful lot...

After 101 losses in a diamond league, we got demoted to gold and now are 7-4 with the #1 pitching (which has only 1 upgrade) and the #1 defense. In the diamond league, my pitching got murdered and even my defense had an off year.

I'm in the same boat. Not sure why my team under performed last year but I should be able to smash the Gold league this year.

I put up a good fight in Diamond last season but I just couldn't keep up with the teams with 4+ Perfects.
