The game ought to generate a guaranteed card and five at random. It then reveals them in random order. Whether they are created one after another or simultaneously doesn't even matter. You get a bronze and five randoms in a pack, revealed in random order.

Nobody claimed the latter, thankfully.

is =/= ought, which explains why some are seeking clarification

The odds are per card, AFAIK. And I think if you do the math, it doesn't matter whether we generate a bronze card and mix it with 5 random cards, or generate 5 random cards and then check if we have a bronze already. And either way, I don't actually know the server algorithm, so I can't comment further.

It does matter, and it is the actual bone we're picking here.

I think you get whatever cards you get. I don't need math to open the pack.

Yes, you're right, the odds are different depending on the method.

Although it doesn't change my answer - I don't know the algorithm that we use, so I can't confirm either way.

I'm not sure I would agree that it **ought** to be this way. Here's why:

The expected value of a guaranteed bronze is 25 PP.

The expected value of a randomly generated card with the published odds is 80 PP (given the minimum card values):

20000 PP * 0.001 + 4000 PP * 0.0067 + 1000 PP * 0.02 + 100 PP * 0.05 + 25 PP * 0.2 + 5 PP * 0.72

So the guaranteed bronze actually makes the pack **worse**, not better. I'd rather take my chances with an extra crack at the high value cards.

Finally snapped my perfect card drought after what must have been over 800 packs since the beta. What a relief! Won't be selling that one.

Just clinched a playoff spot. Thinking about going with an all 90s all-star team for next season, or maybe a team of nothing but one-hit wonders. Theme teams are the most fun

How about you?

Going pretty well. Currently on track for 2nd wildcard spot. I have 2 teams in my division that are well staffed with multiple perfects and nothing worse than a gold, so about the best that can be expected.

Yeah, beating up on teams with brute force is fun for about 5 minutes. It's good for earning PP and building your collection, but the real fun is playing with restrictions. I'm glad you're on track for the playoffs. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

One thing that is surprising to me about the cards is how small the card pool seems to be. I've pulled duplicate diamonds I think twice, and it has happened with a lot of other cards as well.

Yes, and live cards are much more common than historical cards.

Not sure this helps or hinders this discussion but if anyone is interested in my pull #'s:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...5DE/edit#gid=0

411 packs tracked before I gave up. Spent some money in beta so it translated over. Most of the packs however were from early auction house crack -> sell -> buy, some of the auction prices were super high... but they have really fallen lately.

Out of 2465 cards ( 411 packs ) only 1 perfect, but I did get 19 Diamonds. Oddly enough I was getting a almost 1/3rd of all cards at bronze level.

that's the truth.... working on building a pre WW2 team here.... can't get a catcher from that period to save my life (saw Gabby Hartnett in the AH, but no way I can afford him on my F2P team)...

still, other than my 2 catchers, everyone else is 1958 or earlier, so doing a decent job pushing it back to the timeframe I want... and they managed to win their division (a sad, mediocre, dismal division where 81-81 is good enough for 1st, but a win is a win )

Am I the only one who has not opened any packs besides the 6 starter packs?

I did open 5 in Beta but no extra packs since the game went live.

Ha, one of my first diamond pulls was Buck Ewing. Using him as my primary catcher and quite happy with his production.

I'm seeing what I can do without buying any PP so I've only opened a few. They've pretty much all been garbage so I might as well have opened none.

What are the odds?

I have now packed 5 Perfect's in maybe 150 packs (rough estimate) and 3 of the 5 have been Chris Sale.

WTF.
