Ducks 7 Oilers 3

Well the Oilers had a terrible second period and blew a chance to win the series. There was lots of scoing including Jordan Eberle on the PP early in the 1st at 1:39 to make it 1-0. After Anders Lee and Ryan Kesler scored for the Ducks to take a 2-1 lead, Lauri Korpkoski scored on the PP at 16:15 a minute later on the PP again by Iiro Pakarinen. The 1st period featured 2 fights and a total of 30 PIMs combined including Connor McDavid's 1st ever NHL fight. The 2nd period seen the Ducks outshot the Oilers 17-6 and get 4 even strength goals to make it 6-3. The Ducks scored twice in the final minute of the 2nd. The 3rd period saw a lone goal by Sami Vatanen sending the series back to Edmonton for game 6.

Ducks 3 Oilers 2

The Oilers blew a 2-0 lead in the 3rd period to have to go back to the Honda Center for a game 7. The 1st period featured a fight between Darnell Nurse and Corey Perry, but remained scoreless despite the Oilers outshooting the Ducks 10-3. Darnell Nurse broke to goose egg with a goal at 16:32 of the 2nd in another period dominated by the Oilers. Tyler Pitlick made it 2-0 just 59 seconds into the 3rd. With Darnell Nurse serving a minor interference, Stefan Noesen scored on the PP at 3:18 and the comeback was on. Corey Perry evened the score at 7:44 bringing the Oilers home crowd into a quiet nervousness. Brenden Dillon took a hooking penalty at 11:42 giving the Ducks their 5th PP chance and they made it count with a Anders Lee goal at 12:23. The scored 3 goals on 8 shots in the 3rd to beat the Oilers.

Ducks 4 Oilers 1

The Oilers season ended much earlier then they hoped for, another 1st round playoff departure. Considering we led 3-1 in this series, this is a bitter disappointment. Anders Lee scored just 37 seconds into the game to put the Oilers on the ropes early. It stayed that way until mid way into the 1st with Iiro Pakarinen off for tripping, the Ducks Corey Perry scored on the PP. At 2:40 of the 2nd, Andrew Cogliano scored to make it 3-0. Andrew Ference got the Oilers on the board a couple of minutes later, but any energy the Oilers could gain from the momentum quickly dissappeared when Jacob Larsson scored 91 seconds later to make it 4-1. The 3rd period only seen Darnell Nurse and Patrick Maroon square off for the second time in this series, but it was over for the Oilers this season.

A strong playmaker that may not play a strong physical game. He is currently with the Regina Pats of the WHL where he scored 40 goals and had 85 points in 65 games.

The Oilers select in the 4th round, 107th overall...... C Paul Baribeau. The 17 year old is from Saint Pacome, QC. A 6'2" 191 lb Two Way Forward with great aggression and determination. He is a strong physical player that needs to work on his skating. He is currently with the Victoriaville Tigres of the QMJHL where he has 31 goals and 65 points and 84 PIMs in 60 games.

The Oilers select in the 5th round, 137th overall....... LW Rob Ritchie. The 18 year old is from Cleveland, Ohio. A 6'3" 198 lbs Two Way Forward with great determination. He is a strong defensive player that needs to work on his goal scoring abiltiy. He is currently with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL where he has 34 goals and 65 points with 42 PIMs in 56 games.

The Oilers select in the 6th round, 167th overall........ RD Ranis Asadullin. The 17 year old is from Russia. A 6'3" 185 lbs Two Way Defenseman with great aggression. He is considered by the scouts to be a physical player that will need to improve his skating. He is currently with the Russian U20 team where he had 3 goals and 21 points with 22 PIMs in 25 games.

The Oilers select in the 7th round, 197th overall...... LD Tyson Helgesen. The 20 year old Helgesen is from Fairview, Ab. A 6'3" 201 lbs Defensive Defenseman with great puckhandling skills, a great shot with great balance and strength. He is in good physical shape and plays a physical game but despite his great shot, could improve his goal scoring. He is currently with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL where he has 8 goals and 46 points with 52 PIMs in 64 games.

The Edmonton Oilers have traded D Andrew Ference to the New York Rangers in exchange for D Ryely McKinstry. The 38 year old Ference had 6 goals and 19 points with a +0 rating in 67 games for the Oilers. The 18 year old McKinstry played in 20 games for the Rangers last season, he had 0 goals and 3 points with a -7 rating and 14 PIMs.

The Edmonton Oilers have traded G Ben Scrivens to the New York Rangers for the rights to G Alex D'Orio and D Sergei Zborovsky. 2017-2018 NHL Season Preview

With the NHL season about to get underway, the early Stanley Cup favorites appear to Washington, led by F Alex Ovechkin, GM Brian McLellan has built a squad that will be the team to beat this year, but the can expect challenges from Troy Murray's Buffalo Sabres and St Louis featuring F Vladimir Tarasenko.

Among the darkhorses, Edmonton stands out as a possible challenger, with a big season by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins capable of pushing them into contender status.

The scoring race will likely see Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby challenged by Chris Kreider of New York and Washington's Alex Ovechkin.

The top defenseman in the league is generally considered to be Ottawa Senators blueliner Erik Karlsson, with Montreal's PK Subban and Dougie Hamilton of Calgary also in the running.

Finally, amoung goaltenders Montreal's Carey Price stands out as the leagues best while Washington Capitals netminder Braden Holtby and Petr Mrazek of Detroit can also steal games for their teams.



The 2017-2018 Edmonton Oilers

G Jake Allen, the 27 year old came over as a free agent this season to push Hutchinson for the starters role. Allen had 4 seasons with the Blues winning 77 games with a 2.33 GAA, a .913 SV% and 14 SO's.

G Michael Hutchinson, the 27 year old played a full season with the Oilers last year after being traded from Winnipeg for Cam Talbot. Hutchinson struggled in the playoffs last spring, going 3-4 with a 3.46 GAA and .871 SV% and is the reason that the Oilers went out and got Allen.

LD Brenden Dillon, the 26 year old Dillon was a waiver wire acquition last season after the injury to Griffin Reinhart. A solid defensive defenseman ate up over 20 mins per game on the backend for the Oilers.

LD Darnell Nurse, the 22 year old was solid last season, and handled much of the enforcer role as well. He contributed with 5 goal and 29 points offensively and will get most of the top pairing minutes with Justin Schultz.

LD Griffin Reinhart, the 23 year old is hoping to take off from where he left off before his injury last year. His season finished with a shoulder injury in early December limiting him to 18 games. Reinhart expects to be part of the 3rd pairing this season.

LD Dillon Simpson, the 24 year old split time between the NHL and AHL last year. A defensive defenseman that can use his 6'2" 228 lb frame to move guys away from the net and does a good job checking.

RD Justin Schultz, the 27 year old played in all 82 games last year and has only missed 1 game in the past 3 years. Schultz is just 2 points away from his 200 point and 1 goal away from his 50th goal over his 367 game career.

RD Andrej Sekera, the elder statesman of this lineup at the age of 31, Sekera played in all 82 games for the first time since joining the NHL in 2006/07. A two way defenseman that chipped in with 22 points last year.

RD Matt Tennyson, the 27 year old had played in only 52 NHL games since the 2012/13 season. Last season he spent the entire year with the Rangers AHL team in Hartford. Tennyson came to Edmonton via a trade with the Rangers in the offseason. Primarily a two way d-man, that plays a great team game.

LW Marcus Foligno, the 26 year old was a free agent signing for the Oilers this offseason. Considered a two way forward, plays a physical game and is good in front of the oppositions goalie. A vet of 355 NHL games, he 44 goals and 119 career points.

LW Quinton Howden, the 25 year old was a waiver wire pick up last year before the season started. A two way forward with good acceralation and a good team player. Last year he split the season between the AHL and NHL playing 37 games for the Oilers and scoring 3 goals.

LW Alex Killorn, the 28 year old was a free agent signing prior to last season. A two way forward that uses his positioning and determination to be effective defensively. At 6'2 207 lbs, he is not dominating physically and can be expected for around 15 goals.

LW Jacob de la Rose, the 22 year old was acquired in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens involving Beniot Pouliot at last seasons deadline. Considered a two way player, he is an excellent defensive player that can use his size to his advantage. He had 17 points in 68 games with the Oilers/Habs last year.

C Leon Draisaitl, the 21 year old was the 3rd overall pick by the Oilers in the 2014 NHL draft. Considered an offensive forward, he is a strong playmaker with good vision and skating ability. Certainly not a physical player but at a very young age is showing he can score with 13 goals last year in 60 games.

C Marcus Granlund, the 24 year old was acquired on the waiver wire from the Calgary Flames. Considered an offensive player, a strong playmaker with good vision and work ethic. At 5'11" he is not going to dominate physically but proved he can score at the AHL level with 25 goals last season.

C Bo Horvat, the 22 year old Horvat was acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks last year involving Oscar Klefbom. Considered a two way forward he is strong defensive player with a great hockey sense. Horvat is not a physical player but can be expected to be a 15-25 goal scorer in this league.

C Anton Lander, the 26 year old was the 40th overall pick by the Oilers in the 2009 NHL draft. Another one of those two way forwards but with a very good playmaking ability and strong vision on the ice. Not a physical player but could be a 20 point player that chips in with the odd goal.

C Connor McDavid, the 20 year old was the Oilers 1st overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. McDavid is an Offensive player that is showing Star qualitys. A very strong skater with good stamina that has put together two back to back 74 point seasons before the age of 20.

RW Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the 24 year old just added the "A" to his jersey for this season. The NHLs 1st overall pick by the Oilers in 2011 is certainly a strong offensive player. A great playmaker and good skater that had a career high with 64 points and now has 100 career NHL goals.

RW Jordan Eberle, the 27 year old was named "Captain" in the off season after the departure of Andrew Ference. Eberle was the 22nd over all pick in the 2008 NHL draft and is a strong offensive foward. A pure goal scorer that has a great vision of the ice. Eberle has 4 straight season's of 20 or more goals and his 27 short of 200 for his career.

RW Iiro Pakarinen, the 26 year old was originally drafted by the Florida Panthers 184th overall in the 2011 NHL draft. Considered a two way forward, Pakarinen has good stamina and above average strength. He has been playing mostly 4th line minutes for the Oilers last year.

RW Tyler Pitlick, the 25 year old was the 31st overall pick of the Oilers in 2010. He is considered a two way forward that is a strong skater. He is not going to put up alot of points as evidenced by his career total of 24 in 77 NHL games. Last year in 31 games, he played mostly 4th line minutes.

RW Nail Yakupov, the 24 year old was the NHL's 1st overall pick by the Oilers in the 2012 NHL draft. Considered to be an offensive forward that has strong skating ability with good anticipation. With 3 straight seasons of 30 or more points, he could be ready to break out in 2017-18.

LW Taylor Hall, the 25 year old will start the season on the IR for 2 more weeks with back soreness. The Oilers star has been wearing the "A" for a few seasons now. A strong playmaker with great vision and skating ability, he had a career high of 33 goals last year.
