Team Figures

The Flyers finished up 96-66 in 2036 and got swept in the Divisional Series by the Washington LyinCheatin Senators... I think that makes the Flyers' Perfects playoffs record 4-21? all-time. (One 3-2 win, 4 0-3 1st round sweeps, & one 1-3 1st round defeat + 0-4 in one Sub League Series)...I liken this to our 54-108 1st regular season in Perfects & think it's over...(losing in the playoffs.)

Offense
Batting Average .267 (6th in conference)
On-Base Pct .345 (3rd)
wOBA .338 (3rd)
Slugging .420 (3rd)
Total Runs 813 (3rd)
Total Hits 1493 (7th)
Extra-Base Hits 483 (7th) (HR 175, 4th)
Walks 638 (3rd)
Struck-Out 1275 (10th)
Stolen Bases 112 (3rd)

Defense
ERA 3.50 (3rd in conference)
Runs allowed 623 (3rd)
Hits allowed 1380 (5th)
Batting Average allowed .248 (5th)
BABIP (.315) (12th) *-under .300 at least, not, mostly some of the subs were better defensively than the halfway regulars (Gehrig & Ortiz at 1st) that I used this season, and at some other positions.
HR Allowed 112 (4th)
Walks allowed 430 (3rd)
Strikeouts 1472 (2nd)

Saturday afternoon and the team is 90-51, just 6 positive outcomes away from another semi-unlikely division title with 40 games left between the 2 teams. So mathematics would probably say close to 100%. When I said the losing would stop this season, I think I meant it. First Perfect Leagues title.

But, all I'm sure of is I don't expect to be *uncompetitive* tomorrow.
I'm the 2nd best regular season team in my conference & that's not final yet, and of course all the teams in the playoffs are there for a reason but outside of maybe a team named the Flagstaff 49ers it's welly well up-for-grabs and hard to call. There are the 49ers and then 6 other teams that could easily win a series from the others, depending on which way the wind is blowing. And the remaining teams in the playoffs will be formidable as well, to say the least. Plus my team has had the kind of season where they don't seem to react to which kind of team they are playing. VERY even-keeled, plenty of semi-lousy losses but a consistent ability to win games against any team.

90-51 early Saturday, get some rest and see how tomorrow goes, for the 1st time going into the playoffs I feel there is next to no pressure on the club, and that doesn't mean it's fine if we lose, that just means I don't expect the team to have any nervous jitters. We will play some of our best games in the postseason, in all likelihood.

If we do make it to the finals, it is not until then that we will be matched up against the Flagstaff 49ers. The road won't be easy but it's all ahead of us. Something like that. One pitch, one batted ball, at a time.

Playoffs

The Flyers won the opening round series from the Road Drillers, 3-0.
That put us in a (Sub) League Championship series against the Wharf Rats.
We lost that series, 4-1. Game 2 was the highlight as Dwight Gooden PITCHED A POSTSEASON NO-HITTER; allowed 7 walks but 0 runs, 0 hits in a complete game win. The other 4 games (and even that one, which I won 3-0), were pretty much "Which way the wind is blowing" affairs, even though we got swept at home after going 1-1 at their place to open the series. I believe the games we lost were a matter of slightly sharper pitching by the Wharf Rats. They went 3-0 in 3 close games and the series & season were over "just like that".

All in all, things did turn around as I expected even though, I was hoping to be a bit more competitive in the sub-league series (4-3 regular season series against the Wharf Rats)...we ended up with 4 postseason wins in 8 games which matches our win total from the first 25 Perfects postseason games & 6 total postseasons.,

Cy Young 100 won games 1 & 5 for the Wharf Rats. He's pretty good.

2039 Update #1

The Flyers added Willie Keeler to their offensive attack for this season.

After 90 games, we are 1 game off the 2 out of 3/.667 PACE of our hero franchise, the 1986 version of the New York Mets. (59-31)...(.656)

The success the team has had over the past season & a half has come somewhat unexpectedly although I have gradually and consistently enough built a rather formidable opponent for most any team.

I am enjoying the day, feeling OK, & that's what matters most.

I think the team could somewhat easily be 52-38 or so meaning luck has been with us, at least in the sense that the close ones, ahh, forget it, TALK TO YOU NEXT TIME, ANOTHER TIME! LET'S GO METS! LET'S GO FLYERS! GO NEW YORK!

Looks like we're headed for the WC game this season...

Win that...& it's playoffs time. Even though the WC game is technically the playoffs, it may as well be a one-game play-in.

Lose the wild card game...& figure out what how I might approach Monday morning's season.

2040 Wild Card Game P.431

New York Flyers at INKO Seagulls

4-2 game going into the bottom of the 9th, Flyers winning.

Rivera subs for Koufax.
Went:

Boggs flied out.
Keeler flied out.
I. Rodriguez singles.
J. Gibson walks.
T. Williams doubles (Robinson (PR) & Gibson score, 4-4)
Trout walked intentionally.
Paul Blair singles, (J. Pesky (PR) scores)

INKO Seagulls win 5-4.

Guess Boston still hates the Mets for 1986 Game 6 in which they came back from 2 runs down with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. I think that's my only other clear recollection of such a comeback with 2 outs and bases empty in 9th, at least....in the playoffs. & Ted Williams & Johnny Pesky both Red Sox.

Special Note: Former Red Sox Rick Burleson almost got the start at SS. I went with Lindor because of his overall rating & chance he might produce offensively. Instead he went 0-for-3 and dropped a liner at him which led to an unearned run in the tight affair.

Hey, I'm still there. Haha.

2041 - The Flyers broke even, finishing 81-81 and in 3rd place getting a grand total of 0 breaks during the course of the season. That might be a bit of an exaggeration but...tough season. In same division as Singapore Sluggers for first time.

2042 - 2nd year in a row in same conference as Singapore Sluggers, bounced back with RED HOT Aprils & Septembers, finishing 99-63, won the wild card game, won in our first DS game against the Sluggers. At that point, I'm 5-2 overall on the season against Singapore and feeling pretty good about winning this series but Singapore won the next 3...I believe one of them was very close and another one, kind of, close, but ended up 1-3 in the series and 5-5 overall after winning probably not that many against them in a season full of in-division games against them in 2041. Sweet and sour.

2043 - In progress. (50-25)

Just dandy on the defensive side of things to start this season...
Offensively mediocre, but do lead the conference in home runs & stolen bases. 8th in conference in both BA & OBP. 9th in both hits & extra-base hits. Worst BB:K from my team I've seen in awhile despite the hot start...(55:141)...I've scored enough so far, but with very good defense... Will take a look at what I can do to generate at least this level of offense or better without compromising their chances of having an extremely good year defensively.

It's been a wonderful first third of the season. The Windy City Summoners are really outstanding of the 30 teams in the league at 45-9, & I'm enjoying my place in 1st place in a division that they are not in. I'm not in their conference, in fact.

John Lennon was an incredibly credibly lol, honest speaker. Good day to all of you.

We've reached the 72-game mark. The Flyers are 48-24 & enjoy a 7-game advantage in the American West Division.

Last 18 (Inning 4)
13-5
Runs scored: 112
Runs allowed: 82

This morning I did some subbing, quite a bit of it, and not the most orthodox kind, because things felt ...a bit stale...that can heppen when you're a bit toooo focused on improving your squad with not much time for ...well, a lot of fun things.

Well, it certainly helped the offense. Kicked the bats right into gear...
Umm... Koufax & deGrom both lost their 1st game(s), though & very special guest Johnny Franco & Allie Reynolds have ERAs of 8.59 & 8.31 respectively, but they've look alright here & there...and I wouldn't mind seeing how they do for a little longer ...

Keith Hernandez, George Brett, Pete Rose, Jose Reyes, & Tony Gwynn were my (ultimately) picks for possibly kick-starting the offense...they replaced some good bats but they all came in and did ...very well.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Cheers to you and you and you and you and you and you and you

John Franco is now 7/11? in save opportunities with a 6.59 ERA.

I left most of the offense just the same and they continue to do well, just not quite as well. And the defense has been OK, just not as sharp as it was in the first 18 games of the season.

After two-thirds of the season, the New York Flyers have a record of 68-40 & are in 1st place by 13 games. Hit a bit of a rough patch & started allowing far more runs than I was at the beginning of the season. Might give some credit to the offenses I've faced, might encourage Franco to get it together...he's now 17 out of 22 in save situations with an ERA of 5.24. That's not efficient enough so I'll have to change the bullpen arrangement if his performance doesn't improve. If I hold onto the division lead, there are still a number of things that will be decided in the last third of the season. I'm supposed to have a doctor's appointment today but it doesn't make much sense to me.

Totally understand why I didn't want to go to doctor's appointment earlier, but ...it wasn't that bad. Have opened up 18.5 games between us & the 2nd place team, 'The Secret Weapon Pablo Sanchez'. Some fun games in this stretch, still kind of lost in regards to run prevention but...it's all good...or something.

One other team ..600+ in this conference, 5 right now in the other.

Red Devils & Summoners both .750+ win pcts. (Red Devils in our conference)

As the Flyers prepare for the end of the regular season & the beginning of the postseason, they now have the luxury of preparing mostly...for the postseason.

As the manager & GM, I will try to put the right players in the right players, err, right players in the right places, at the right time, & keep it interesante. It's up to them to do the rest.

Celebrating division title 12 or so. I know...I don't have the exact number, but I'm pleased with it.

2044 Playoffs

Blew it.

Hosting the Split Squid, split the first 2 games of the DS, won game 3, dropped game 4 10-3, & lost game 5 in extra innings, 3-2. Franco got the L but he wasn't so bad, Reyes was inserted at third base & made an error. The Knights took down the Red Devils, too, so I had a chance at getting to WS without taking on a monster.
