The Dog Park

Welcome to the Dog Park, the new home stadium of the Hiram College Terriers!
The Terriers are an FTP pack opening only team. The main goal is to eventually pull enough decent cards to compete at the higher levels of PT over the course of a full year. I will sell cards in the auction house, but I must resist all auction house temptations and only use points earned to purchase packs. It'll be a slow grind, but one that will hopefully keep me engaged.
The initial starter pack pulls have me excited about the offense but questioning the starting rotation and the bullpen (no lefties).
Regardless, here are the entry pool opening day Terriers:

Starting Rotation
67 Joe Nuxhall
66 Erick Fedde
59 Anthony DeSclafani
59 Dylan Bundy
51 Schoolboy Rowe

Bullpen
74 Mark Melancon
72 Jimmie Sherfy
67 Dylan Floro
65 Matt Bowman
63 Chasen Bradford
61 Joey Krehbiel
58 John Curtiss

Starting Position Players
C 57 Rick Dempsey
1b 69 John Olerud
2b 69 Rod Carew
3b 81 Scott Brosius
SS 62 Peanuts Lowrey
LF 66 Alex Johnson
CF 68 Ichiro Suzuki
RF 69 Rocky Colavito
DH 72 Matt Adams

Bench Players
C 59 Martin Maldonado
3b 58 Taylor Ward
SS 58 Alen Hanson
LF 60 Dylan Cozens

Once the team earns the extra 2000 from first time achievements, I'll open the first 3 new packs in hopes we can acquire some upgrades. Until then, here's the logo and lineups.

My GM'ing of 2 Indians theme teams in OOTP19 was downright dreadful. Knuckle-headed moves sandwiched in between questionable player acquisitions, flanked by poorly thought out long term plans. With all that said, I get a fresh start with the Terriers and 3000 points to play with. Sure it took awhile to get my 3000 points (started 0-5 with 3 straight off days) but I decided to open 3 card packs....

The rotation got a huge boost from 79 SP Ernie Broglio. He'll immediately become the staff ace. Other new rotation arms include 76 Britt Burns and 65 Clay Holmes. The bullpen finally got a left hander in 60 Ryan Yarbrough who will be a specialist and long relief.
The pack pulls also brought in two new catchers...77 Francisco Cervelli and 65 Lance Parrish. 68 Ehire Adrianza will start at SS pushing Peanuts Lowrey into a backup role.
The bench also received a new backup infielder in 66 Tom Herr.

Players sent to the reserve roster:
SP Anthony Desclafani
SP Dylan Bundy
SP Schoolboy Rowe
RP John Curtiss
C Rick Dempsey
C Martin Maldonado
3b Taylor Ward
SS Alen Hanson

I'm quite pleased with the first round of player acquisitions during spring training. The Hiram College Terriers look like a solid iron/bronze squad. So here's to hoping spring training goes well.
And just an FYI to all the opposing teams coming into the Dog Park......
those aren't piles of mud in the outfield

I woke up on the second day of spring training to discover an extra 2000 points from a perfectly executed triple play. Along with the other days earnings I immediately opened 3 more packs in an attempt to get more tryout players.
And holy cow, luck was on my side....

New starters for the Hiram Terriers:
C 90 Gabby Hartnett
RP 84 Dave Righetti
RP 77 Tanner Scott
SP 69 Zac Eflin

To the reserve roster:
C 65 Lance Parrish
SP 65 Clay Holmes
RP 63 Chasen Bradford
RP 60 Ryan Yarbrough

I'll be sending 90 C JT Realmuto to the auction house as I believe 77 Francisco Cervilli is a more than capable backup and the extra points will allow the Terriers to canvass a wider area looking for tryout players.

New players:

Another Spring Training Update:

Hiram College is 9 games above .500 with a record of 86-77.
Ichiro leads the team with a .333 batting average which is good enough for 4th in the league. He also leads the league with 15 triples.
Britt Burns is 14-8 with 3.83 ERA.
Rocky Colavito recently had a 3 home run game.

4 more packs were opened, but only one player volunteered to join the Terriers, 98 3b Justin Turner. He'll replace 81 Scott Brosius (who had been struggling all spring) and takes over the hot corner. Unfortunately Brosius was immediately cut and sent to the auction house. Some Hiram fans might question my decision on how I could cut ties so quickly with a gold rated player and not give him a backup job, but after mulling over his ratings compared to some of my top notch bronze bench players, I determined his "81" was a bit misleading.

Edit: The team was actually 86-71, 15 games above .500 at the time of this post. I couldn't read my own hand-written scribbles.
Yep, I was hired to GM this team lol

Yes indeed. My all Indians team is the Ohio City Chefs. They're in iron struggling through their first season.

Going into the last day of spring training, I'm happy with the hodge podge of offensive players I've claimed from pack openings. The biggest question going into opening day tomorrow morning is who's the top dog of the pitching staff? I know the fans and ownership have no patience for a GM with a proven track record of questionable decision making and will run me straight out of the Dog Park if the team struggles. I know I'm in the crosshairs after bungling the management of all three of my PT19 teams, so armed with 5000 achievement points, I've decided to do the only logical thing to upgrade the pitching staff......
go to IHOP, eat some pancakes, say a prayer, cross some fingers, and open some packs....

Obviously the baseball gods were feeling extra sorry for the Hiram College Terriers and their sad-sack GM. They only gave us 1 player out of 30, but he's just what the Terriers needed.

Introducing the new staff ace, Chris Sale!

Opening day is here and the Hiram College Terriers have been slotted into Iron 162. All dogs have been walked and water bowls filled so here's your initial opening day Terriers:

Rotation
98 Chris Sale (the only player in the PT universe to lose his perfect rating....boo!)
79 Ernie Broglio
76 Britt Burns
72 Barry Zito
71 Zach Eflin (went from 69 to 71....yay!)

Bullpen
84 Dave Righetti
78 Tanner Scott
74 Mark Melancon
73 Jimmy Sherfy
68 Daniel Zamora
68 Dylan Floro
65 Matt Bowman

Lineup
C 90 Gabby Hartnett
1b 72 Matt Adams
2b 74 Zach Cozart
3b 96 Justin Turner (98 to 96....boo!)
SS 62 Peanuts Lowrey
LF 66 Alex Johnson
CF 68 Ichiro Suzuki
RF 69 Rocky Colavito
DH 69 Rod Carew

Bench
C 74 Francisco Cervelli
IF 69 John Olerud
IF 66 Tom Herr
OF 63 Dylan Cozens

Here's the league. I've noticed 'sethisthegoat', a fellow dynasty blogger, has his team the Cleveland Legends lurking over on the opposite side of the bracket. Good luck Terriers and play ball!

Apparently the Terriers like the Alpo I've been leaving out because they've started a respectable 31-22, just 1 game behind the Sugar Grove Corn Boilers.

Best in show:
Ichiro Suzuki is batting .321 with 19 steals and had a 17 game hit streak
Zach Eflin is 5-3 with a 3.35 ERA

In the doghouse:
Britt Burns is 3-4 with 5.68 ERA
Zack Cozart has a line of .211/.255/.333 and is the only player with a negative WAR at -0.3

Four packs were opened....nothing but strays.

The winners of yesterday's barking contest were Justin Turner and Dave Righetti. Their loud and consistent barking technique sent them straight to the all star game.

The Terriers trail the Sugar Grove Corn Boilers by 14 games now but still hold on to the second wild card should the season end today. Unfortunately it doesn't end today and I'm well aware the Terriers can easily go on a 2-15 run with no rhyme or reason. At this point I'm going to resort to the strategy of finger crossing. This strategy is what got me hired here so why change anything?

How quickly things change. It looks like the Terriers will be repeat customers in the Iron leagues next season. My finger crossing strategy didn't pay off, in fact it made things worse. I also identified another strategic issue.....it's important to give each individual Terrier it's OWN bone to gnaw. If you make 25 Terriers share the same bone, some of them will lose interest and wander off.
Lesson learned.

The Hiram College Terriers finished 79-83 in their inaugural season and will remain in the iron leagues. We're at the mercy of achievement points and lucky pack openings for all upgrades so this will be a slow climb. Keeping the Terriers focused on baseball and not chasing mailmen will be a challenge, but one I'm up for.

Best In Show:
Chris Sale 17-11 3.28 ERA 1.05 WHIP 258 K's (led the entire league in k's)
Justin Turner .302 15 HR's 95 RBI's 5.6 WAR (led the NC in batter WAR)

In the Doghouse:
Britt Burns 9-16 5.63 ERA 1.51 WHIP
Zach Cozart .211 -0.4 WAR

Just Adopted:
2b Ildemaro Vargas (62) utility INF
RP Ryan Brasier (74) middle relief

Sent to the Pound:
2b Tom Herr (66)
RP Matt Bowman (65)

Pack Update:
30 packs have been opened since the start of spring training....
1 perfect
3 diamonds
1 gold
10 silvers

I think you're gonna need more bones. Maybe encourage the team with a trip to their favorite dog park for 85+ wins next season.

Gonna be making the jump to Iron on Monday myself. Feel like I'm gonna be lucky to win 70 since I don't have anything above a 75

Lol, I'm definitely not above bribery as a team strategy.

Thanks buddy, I'm gonna need it. Won't be entering next season with anything higher than a 75 OVR. Being poor, not getting lucky on packs, and being an NL East theme team will do that. I wonder if we can get relegated back to entry pool by accident

My pack of pooches get to retry the iron leagues. I haven't made any significant upgrades so the results will probably be very similar (multiple terriers aimlessly running around the field while barking at random things that move etc.)
Anyways, we're in Iron 150.

Chris Sale No Hits the Outer Space Angry Aliens!!!

He earned me 1500 for the no-no and 400 for the Maddux.
I immediately took my earnings to the pound looking for new pups to play ball but was sent home empty handed.
