Custom League Issues
I'm in year 10 of my custom league and 2 things have popped up. First, I start with a 10 team league, and when the draft comes up, it's insanely stacked. Everyone's getting at least a 4 star player in the first round, and even the last guy picked in the 7th round will have a 2.5-3 star potential. THis use to be normal for teh first couple seasons, but now at year 10 (with the league up to 14 teams,) the final player is still a 2.5 star potential. Seems a little crazy to me. This also screws up the startegy screen, because when your third best center for example, is rated 3.5 stars, he'll suffer when you put him on the 3rd line.
The next problem is that as you go through the years, a 3 star player will ask to be paid like a 3 star player. To keep your team stable, you need to give them inflated contracts. (Based on thier ratings, not thier performance) So by year 10, payroll is through the roof. To make matters worse, my budget declines, not allowing me to resign my best players, let alone bringing in new free agents. A lot of teams are over budget, and therefore can't make trades, nor sign free agent. A lot of the game's best players can't find a job. I'm wondering if there's some kind of mechanism to scale the draft in smaller leagues, or if teh program just creates x number of players for each star rating, and so smaller leagues get flooded with good players. |

Are you playing with a junior league and, if so, what size?

I'll do some checking with that setup. My first guess was a junior league that was oversized relative to the major league, but that can't be it. If anything, I'd expect the player depth to be a little thin after expanding by 40%.

Sorry, Thought you meant was I playing in the JR league.
Yes, there is a jr league in my game and it is set at 30 teams. I did this because I eventually want to expand up to 36 teams. If I left my jr league at 10, then I'd wouldn't have enough competent players later on down the road. Correct? If I could expand my jr league, would that solve the problem? |

Aha, yeah, that's probably it. You don't need to make the junior league extra-large in that case - the number of major-league potential caliber rookies generated will adapt to the size of your top league; the more teams you add, the more there will be. But it sounds like the filler players the game is generating to maintain the junior roster might be a little too good, so I'll do some investigating to see if there's a problem there.
