Service time or no service time

Every time I start a fictional league the fake players are given service time. But of course it’s a new league and they should not really have service time. So would you keep the service time or reset so there is no service time. Curious how people go about that.

When I set up fictional leagues I keep service time. I usually set up my fictional leagues with free agent eligibility after 7 years. If I reset service time to 0 then the only free agents I would have for the first 7 years would be those who were released by teams or independent leaguers who join the league. I keep service time so I have a pool of good players in free agency every year right from the start.

leave it. it gives a distribution at least resembling what 'should be.'

it dominos into finances and other things... you want that distribution of ml service time as opposed to all 0.

on possible ramification -- all teams have too much money in the same exact years.. this will likely drive salaries up in these particular years when all players achieve FA at the same time if you 0 it out. it would work itself out, as oppose to anything permanent.

even better start to avoid that guesstimation, at creation pre-date enough years to turnover entire league (MiL+MLB) and sim to intended start day. if in a rush, 20 years would by ~100%, but not quite. 18-38 or 17-37 are both possible lingering players, but likely inconsequential.

anyway, this gives you a full(er) FA field, ability to start on any date you choose, and all players* are created as they will be in the future -- assuming no settings changes that relate.

you can erase history and such and make it like day one. you can speed up sim time by turning off various things in that time that don't affect development, aging, etc.

players created at inception are not quite the same in quality and distribution as what you will see.
