Most realistic league settings

Hello,

I notice there are some subtle differences between the default fictional settings (which are supposed to emulate modern baseball for the most part) and the settings in the major league quickstart. For example, the major league quickstart stealing tendency is set at rare instead of normal and demotion refusals are disabled.

So, when creating a new fictional league would it be better to import the 2012 settings instead of leaving them at default?

With all due respect to the makers of the quickstart (and I mean that), there have been times when certain settings were found to be "off," that is, set inaccurately in this showcase game that ships with each version. It is my impression that much more analysis and testing have gone into the default settings, both modern and historical.

EDIT: Hmmm. Did I answer your question? My guess is no. My subsequent guess here would be to advise you to trust the default settings, be they 2012 or 2013 or whatever, and not worry about what the quickstart game shows.

For the record, on my huge fictional quickstart, I import 2011 settings. I think how actual MLB steals stats work out are a little less than the default setup just because MLB teams really don't take advantage of the running game in most cases, even if their teams talents really should lead them to do so.

I wanted my league to play very similar to MLB in that year, so I used it -- but I don't think it will make a HUGE difference.

As far as the demotion refusals, it may have to do with it being an initial year of the league to where people wouldn't have acquired the time necessary to use it...

I don't think you can really go wrong either using the default fictionals, I just used the 2011 by personal preference due to what I was trying to accomplish, and I love it so far. One thing I *did* do was put the Home Runs to .900 just to taper them off a bit without affecting the overall offense of the league. VERY happy so far.
