Expansion Draft

Just wondering I've seen other people do this and just wondering what rules you guys use..

a) how many people do u let the other teams protect...
b) how many players do u limit each team to lose?

Depends what U want 2 accomplish? 4 example: close 2 reality, or give U an easier time 2 be competitive or 2 have an uphill battle. i would let AI protect all 40-man roster, no limit.

6 or more teams expansion-teams protect 18.

Less than 6 teams-teams protect 20.

I just expanded MLB by 2 teams. I let the protect 30 players. Gave me pretty good results I think. Both expansion teams got a 2-3 good major league players from the draft (Good being 3+ WAR players) and a couple of solid prospects. About 5 quality assets Then the rosters were filled out with AAAA types.

Most of the "good" players taken were starters being used as MR, or guys stuck on the depth chart. I don't think any team lost a good player in a starting role.

Both expansion teams lost 90+ games in year 1 (4th and 5th picks in the draft the next year).

What does the game do if he expands through game evolution? What are the built in rules?

(I haven't had it happen yet)

2 expansion teams - protect the full 25

4 or more - protect 20

No limit on how many one team can lose. I've expanded three times in my fictional league, each time with two teams each. I'm planning a four-team one in the next five seasons or so.

They've run pretty smoothly. About what you'd expect, mostly only the dregs of the league get drafted, except for a few roadblocked prospects or over-the-hill former stars. Best any first-year expansion team has done so far is 71-91, worst is 47-115.

has anyone ever done an expansion in a league with nationality limits? do the teams protect their players that fit the rule leaving dregs and foreigners for the expansion teams and do the expansion teams seek out local players?

well based on the 1997 MLB expansion draft for Tampa and Arizona they had 35 picks so 3 rounds 35 players..
