Talk about a ball hog

Player scores 100 in NAIA

Dude took 62 shots. Teammates had 15.

Also led or tied both teams for steals and rebounds. Also had 12 three pointers. He played most of the game but It looks like all the subs on his team played quite a bit. Excellent all around game. I am sure his team mates where happy for him and glad to be a part of it.

Heh, I'm not so sure about that last sentence.

I can't imagine taking 62 shots unless I made 50. And even then I'd feel guilty.

Shades of Pistol Pete Maravich during his college days at LSU.

Most of Wayland Baptist's basketball history is on the women's side of the sport. If you look at their website and bring up the history of the women's team, you'll see Wayland was a 1950's powerhouse and the first women's team to offer 13 full scholarships.

My wife's father's cousin was the PG on the team in the late 1950's and represented the US in the Pan American games--mentioned on the site. Without that scholarship, she never would have gone to college and would have wound up working in a meat packing plant until they folded in the early 1980's. Instead she became a teacher and retired to Hawaii.

So I good for Wayland and enjoy the publicity.

I can never understand 2-12 or 3-14 from the FT line. I wasn't that bad when I was 8. What makes a free throw so hard to make for some players? I'll just never understand it.

It is all mental. Why couldn't Steve Sax or Chuck Knoblauch get the ball from 2nd to 1st? You get the yips and it stays with you for some reason.

There is also some correlation between hand size and being able to hit free throws. i.e. larger hands make it more difficult.

So, women are better FT shooters?

The wnba free throw percentage is always 79-80% while the nba is 76-77%, so yes?

Hand size impact is well known. It's like a regular sized person trying to shoot a ball the size of a grapefruit for some of those players

It is not a perfect correlation. But yes, women do tend to be better FT shooters when comparing professionals.
Some of the all time best WNBA single season FT% seasons are much than the NBA. Some of the career % are much higher.
You will find the same thing in European leagues.

Or you can look league wide like is explaining above and see that the league average from the line is higher.

Also the WNBA ball is a bit smaller. A size 6 vs size 7
It is 1" less in circumstance and is several ounces lighter.

Some seasons side by side for comparison sake.
WNBA season is 34 games but you still have to qualify to be on the list.
And the WNBA sample size is still large enough to compare with statistical certainty.

Also note that the NBA list is filled with small guards. Calderon was 6'2. Calvin Murphy about 5'8
Ray Allen was listed at 6'5 but probably close to 6'4

The best WNBA active FT shooter is Elena Della Donne who is 6'5. That is probably about the sweet spot for the ball fitting well into your hands.
