1923 Where Are They Now?
Top Prospects:
Blake Martin - After getting drafted 1st overall, Martin was the next year's top prospect. He had more injury problems in 1923 and only started 112 games, though he did provide 2.2 WAR. Francis Leonard - He was a surprise as the top pitching prospect in 1918 as he was a reliever. He has made two all-star teams with the Brewers and finished 3rd in Reliever of the Year twice. Draftees: Arnold White - He was the top draftee in 1918 and has so far won an MVP, made three all-star teams, and won two silver sluggers. Gilson Cravoa - He was the top high schooler in 1918 and did make it up to the number one prospect status, winning Rookie of the Year in 1922. He has made an all-star game and won a silver slugger and was the 1922 World Series MVP for the Angels. Crosby Hassebrock - He was the top pitching prospect but has been unable to stay healthy, currently on the shelf for a torn UCL. Award Winners: D.J. Hammonds - 1918 Rookie of the Year and recent retiree. He played 5 seasons with the Royals and both injuries and poor results forced him into early retirement. Hermes Segura - He won the Rookie of the Year in the NL and has had more success at the major league level, winning two gold gloves, two silver sluggers, going to one all-star game, and getting elected the 1922 NL Division Series MVP. Other: Jameson Worren - He pitched a perfect game in 1918 and has had a lot of injury problems every year - a replacement starter. |
