New York Yankees 2023 "Let the Kids play" SteamDeck Play
So this will just be a 1 season sim. As a Yanks fan I have seen a lot of people say that it's time to let the kids play and bring more contact to the team.
Well I just wanted to do a quick sim of what the offseason and 2023 season could look like if we brought in more speed, more contact, and younger guys. I'll try to stay true to some of the MLB rumors and desires of the Yanks fans. So lets see what happens. |

So lets review the changes most fans want. (Keep in mind this isn't Georges team anymore. So I think we can all agree not much if any payroll will be added. So i'm going to keep it around the end of season payroll of $251 Million.
Moves fans want: (No Order) 1. Hicks gone or cut 2. Donaldson traded 3. Benny resigned 4. Judge resigned 5. More Speed 6. More Contact 7. Better GM 8. Better Coaching 9. Youth Movement 10. Starting Pitching |

Hicks traded or Cut
Well this one the game already took care of for me. Before I took over the Yanks the computer just outright cut Hicks. I'm not complaining. Have to eat the money but dude has been overrated forever. For me one of the worst contracts ever by Cashman.

I did. The staff I put together is unrealistic but so be it. It would be awesome. That is coming soon.

Donaldson Traded?
Alright so let me say I really missed Gio. While I was actually high on IKF I was not happy about Donaldson. Money wasted. So in OOTP the only way to trade him for anything of value was to eat his salary and include a prospect. I could have traded him for another horrible contract but no thanks.
Move: Donaldson (25% salary retention), (3B) Jesus Bastidas, (C) Antonio Gomez, (RP) Danny Watson, (RP) Jake Zebron for (SP) Lucas Giolito and (SP) Michael Kopech So this move was a salary dump. The high amount of prospects was to lower the salary retention down to 25 from 60%. More movies from this trade will happen though due to the $251 Million Salary Cap. |

Benny Resigned
So the next move is resigning Andrew Benintendi. I love his style of play and I think it is just what the Yanks need to so they can get more contact.
Move: Resigned for 5/yr $87,000,000. (AAV $17,400,000) Player opt out after 1st year and last year. Overall I think this is a good deal. He may even opt out after the first year if he really gets going in Yankee Stadium. But he's only 28 so 5 years isn't bad. |

Aaron Judge Resigned
So regardless of my thoughts on Judge I do believe the Yanks will throw the bank at him. So I did just that.
Move: 8yr/$297,000,000 (AAV $37,125,000) Overall signed for a lot less then he will get in real life so I can't complain...Yet |

More Speed/Contact
Alright so as a small ball player this is how I love to watch the game. Give me contact, speed, stolen bases, and manufacturing runs.
So part of this is the youth movement with Volpe, Peraza, and Cabrera. But I wanted to check and see if I could make some other moves. Move 1: (SP) Yoendrys Gomez for (SS) Adalberto Mondesi Note---Yeah this is a pure speed move here Move 2: (1B) Ronald Guzman and (SP) Justin Lange for (OF) Jarred Kelenic. Note---Young outfielder with speed and a good glove in the field. 4th outfielder Move 3: (SP) Michael Kopech and (RP) Lou Trivino for (INF) Vidal Brujan and (OF) Raider Brito Note---This was a salary move to stay under $251 million. While I wanted to have Kopech in the rotation I needed his salary gone. Same with Trivino after Arb. Move 4: Promoted Volpe, Peraza, and Cabrera. 2 out of the 3 will be starting at least. Most likely Volpe and Cabrera since I got Mondesi. Move 5: Stay tuned. Big Utility role player incoming |

Pending Free Agents and Arbitration Players
I should have started with this; Pending free agents (Impact ones)
1. Rizzo - I let him go. Again working with the salary cap I wanted his money to go elsewhere. 2. A. Chapman - Screw him 3. Carpenter - I actually tried to sign him to a one year deal but St Louis out bid me which is fine. 4. Picked up Sevy's contract 5. Britton - Goodbye 6. Green - He's injured so goodbye 7. Taillon - Not worth the money with my salary cap 8. Castro - Goodbye 9. Marwin Gonzalez - Go bang on some trashcans Arbitration Players Torres - Traded (Will post trade) Holmes - Signed Cortes - Signed Trevino - Signed Montas - Signed IKF - Traded (Will post trade) Peralta - Released German - Signed Loaisiga - Signed Luetga - Signed Higgy - Signed Locastro - Signed King - Signed |

GM/Coaching staff
Alright so this was more of a fun one to do. Like a lot of Yankee fans I wish we would bring in some of the old Yanks to coach. Again i'm not all into analytics so this was just a fun staff to make. It's more of fan wishing here.

Fun stuff. But Vidal Brujan looks just like Jarred Kelenic.

Torres traded
Move: Gleyber Torres & (SS) Alexander Vargas to the Indians for (SP) Triston McKenzie, (SP) Carl Quantrill, & (2B) Richie Palacios.
——note So this move was meant to add some arms to the rotation. But as you will see they don’t stay on the team long. |

Ian Happ a Yankee
Move: (SP) Triston McKenzie & (SP) Brendan Beck to the Chicago Cubs for (Utility) Ian Happ
——note So this move was to get another super utility clout but also get some contact hitting on the team. |

Yanks get a big reliever
Move:
(RP) Jacob Barnes & (OF) Richie Palacios for (RP) Liam Hendricks ——notes I made this move for the soul purpose of getting a real closer on the team. Well another huge move will be coming that makes Hendricks a setup man instead. |

Huge addition to the staff
Move: Signed Carlos Rodon 5yr/$150 mil ($30 mil AAV)
——note This is to take care of the fans desire for starting pitching. I had planned this so that was a major factor in the SP trades when I got the pitching from the Donaldson and Torres trades. |

New Closer!!!
Move: Edwin Diaz signed 5yr/$65 Mil ($13 mil AAV)
——notes So I started this game before he resigned with the Mets. Since it was a Yanks fan desire to sign him to be the closer I did it. |

Final Roster
Starting Pitching
1. Rodon 2. Cole 3. Cortes 4. Severino 5. Montas Reliever King Hendricks Effross Marinaccio Holmes Z. Greene Loasiga Closer Diaz Lineup C - Trevino, Higgy 1B - Oswaldo Cabrera 2B - Anthony Volpe 3B - DJ SS - Mondesi LF - Beni CF - Bader RF - Judge DH - Stanton Bench Happ Brujan Oswald Peraza Jared Kelenic Notes: So the pitching staff could have had a lot of changes in my opinion but most people seem to think Cortes will do his magic again. And a lot of fans still believe in Sevy so besides Rodon I didn’t make any changes to the starters. Also for relievers I did add Hendricks and the fan wish of Diaz. Obviously huge additions to what many believe is a good pen. Lineup So I didn’t make a change at Catching. Fans seem to like Trevino enough to upgrade other areas. I will say this, I had a lot of offers to trade for Salvador Perez from the Royals. But Trevino is a fan favorite. Infield was all about get Volpe, Peraza, and Cabrera on the field. Well Volpe and Cabrera were easy but Peraza is pushed to the bench for Mondesi. Speed/Contact We improved this tremendously. Volpe, Peraza, Mondesi, Cabrera, Brujan, Kelenic and Happ. We have speed/Contact in the field and off the bench. |

Season sucked :(
Overview:
So yeah we didn't make the playoffs sadly. We missed the playoffs on the last day of the season. The RedSox and Bluejays were a game ahead of the Yanks. I simmed the Bluejays game first and they lost. Then I simmed the Redsox and they won ending our season. |
