In Your Dynasties, Does Ovi do it?

So Here I am, 2022, 70 games into the year. Ovi just passed Gordie Howe into sole possession at #2 on the All-Time Goals list.

Ovi is now number 2 at 802
Gretzky is number 1 at 894

Ovi is still under contract until 2024 with Washington. IF he doesn't decide to retire (why would he? hes still a 50 goal scorer, even at 36 years old). I see no reason why he can't break the record!

In your saves, does he do it?

I had him do it twice. Once, he was a member of own of my expansion teams. He put up 64 goals at 37 years old. The other time, he was a member of my LA Kings. As far as I know, he has not been able to do it as a member of the Capitals.

In my current save he retired with 904 goals after season 25/26. He played one season with Carolina prior of being traded to the the Devils where he played a couple of seasons. Scored 55 goals at age 38.

Last season before retirement was with the Oilers where he produced 15+18 in 53 games.

Just retired after 2025-26 season! Yes he's the one,910 goals in regular season!
but in his last year he signs a year contract with the Leafs

he did it here in mine. Auston Matthews looks like hes on pace 620 at age 33 he had a boat load of 120 point seasons. In my save but he just was a free agent all season at 33 years old. Not sure if a glitch in the game he didnt sign in KHL or anywhere. Doesnt say hes retired or injured. still 19 rated sniper. Just decided to skip an entire year and pull a Michael Jordan I guess

Ovi came up 1 goal short of tying the record in my dynasty which was pretty funny. You get that close you may as well break it.

He retired in 26-27 with an incredible 970 goals to his name. He couldn't stick it out in washington, so he spent some time in anaheim and eventually got traded to winnipeg.

Almost made it in my save, as he finished his career with 892 goals (2 less than Gretzky). And you can blame the Islanders for that ;-)

He left Washington in the 2022 off-season to join the New York Rangers and his Russian friend Panarin. The Rangers had two very strong regular season with him, but lacked playoff success. In a blockbuster trade, at the beginning of the 24/25 season, he was dealt to their rivals, the New York Islanders. Unfortunately, the Islanders were not a great fit for Ovi, as he production dropped significantly in those two years.

In the 2025 off-season, the Colorado Avalanche (my team) decided to sign 39-year old Alex Ovechkin a one-year, 6.25 million dollar-deal. We lacked a 2nd line goal-scorer the season prior (in which after a good regular season we were eliminated in the first round by the eventual champions Calgary Flames), so it seemed like a nice fit. After some initial struggle he formed an amazing second line alongside playmaking center Theo Rochette and two-way-forward Teuvo Teräväinen (who was the other big off-season aquisition, via trade with the Hurricanes). With 43 goals and 37 assist, Ovi found his "old-self" again.

Not only that, but with 24 points (11 goals) in 22 games he was our second best point producer in the playoffs (only behind MacKinnon), leading the Avs to the second Stanley Cup in the "MacKinnon/Landeskog/Rantanen"-era. To make this even more impressive: In the Conference Finals against the Oilers (back-to-back champions in 2022 and 2023), the Avs were facing elimination, being down 1:3 in the series. In Game 5, eliminaton seemed inevitable, as we were down 0:3 going into the third period. Ovechkin scored the important 1:3 and the super-important 3:3-goal. Eventually we would force Game 6 and 7, move on to the Stanley Cup-Finals, where the Avs beat the Presidents Trophy winners Columbus Blue Jackets 4:1.

Ovi actually extended his contract in order to chase the record, but probably all the Stanley Cup-partying was too much for 40-year old Ovi, as he made up his mind and decided to end his career as a two-time-Stanley Cup champion.
