Contract help

I just got FHM 3 last night. I have played a little in the past with both FHM and OOTP. As far as contracts go: I am GM of NHL team and looking at upcoming free agents who are in the farm teams I have a guy in ECHL with an entry level expiring contract for $60,000 and other similar player who I would like to resign to continue down there. Can I only offer contracts at NHL league minimum because he wants like $500,000-$600,000?

Furthermore, and a related question: Do I have to sign enough players to keep farm team stocked? Really the guy I am asking about above I don't really see rising above at most the AHL level....so should I even sign him?

You can offer him a two-way deal that pays the NHL minimum salary if he's playing in the NHL, but something a lot smaller if he's in the minors. He may not agree to it and insist on a one-way contract where he gets paid the NHL amount regardless of where he plays, but that's not likely for an ECHL-caliber player - unless he's really greedy he should understand that he'll have to take a two-way deal.

You don't need to keep the farm teams fully stocked, they'll sign players to fill in any gaps you leave. But it's generally a good idea to keep at least a dozen or so on the farm to give you options for covering any really bad runs of injuries to your NHLers.

Thank you. That helps a lot and doesn't feel so overwhelming.
