Player development after age 26
First off, some details about our league:
* Scouting = off * Coaches = off In our league, there are a handful of players that get talent bumps around their 24-25th birthday. Thus, a player that might have been developed to his old talents suddenly has some room to grow. If I look at the 'canned' scouting reports generated by the game when scouts are turned off, a player that is less than 26 years old is talked about in terms of his potential. Once a player turns 26 however, scouting reports suddenly switch and they cease to talk about their talents, but rather their ratings. As as example, we have a player in our league that has 9/9/8/6/6 talents (10pt talent scale) as a hitter after receiving 7 talent bumps in the past 15 months. However, that player was 25 years old. Scouts rave about the player's talents. On his birthday, scouts suddenly say he can't hit a lick (his ratings are 11/17/10/7/7 on 20pt rating scale). So my long winded question is this: Should I expect that players don't develop very well after their 2th birthday, as the scouting reports seem to suggest? Or is it just coded into the game that a 25 year old is considered a prospect while a 26 year old is a bust if not developed? |

Hi, kmlfortcollins.
I wondered about this and started this thread recently: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post3024729. So far there have been several examples of players coming through later in life than that.

There is also some hard coding in the 'suggested level' logic on the "Minor League System Report" page, so it is often wise to ignore the games suggested levels and base your promotions/demotions on player age, ratings-to-talent ratio, and stats at the current level. The players star ratings also have some hard coded logic, and sometimes need to be ignored when it's obvious they are inaccurate. They are somewhat useful, just don't assume they are always very accurate. |

Which is one reason I stopped using them - you get to relying on them because it's just so easy to do so, and then one day you do something based on stars and it turns out to be a huge mistake.
