5,6 or 7 Bullpen?

Just curious on what size bullpen people are using in PT.

I like a big bullpen, so I'm using 7. That's actually down from 8 during beta. Seems to be working well for me so I think I'm going to stick with 7.

Interesting, You used to use 8? I use 7 also but I see teams in my league using 5 or 6.

I did, which I admit was probably overkill, although I'd have a couple of starters that just didn't seem to pitch long into games.

I'm using a closer, stopper, two set-up guys, two middle relief guys, and a long reliever. Try to keep one lefty/one right in each set. Every time I've thought about going down to 6 I always seem to have back to back long extra-inning games.

I use 9. I don't see any reason not to. In beta, I used 10.

I use 7. I like to keep a starter for a long man and 6 closers. I believe in pitching and defense.

if it worked for you it was not a overkill. I love this part of the game where we all have different strategy’s going on. I have 2 reserve players who can play 5 positions so I was thinking of going to a six man bullpen but like you I have a lefty specialist who pitches to 1 or 2 batters in a game at very crucial moments. I hate to overturn the apple cart.

I used six for a while when I had starters going deep in games. It worked fine. I make the decision based on how often my last few guys are being used.

I have a 5 man bullpen ATM, with a rotation of high stamina guys and a slow hook.

I don't want a big bullpen for 3 reasons:

1. Nearly all of the defensive achievement rewards require the starter to go deep into a game, if not complete it.

2. I truly believe that you can get more value out of a platoon arrangement than a LOOGY guy and

3. My notions of baseball roster management are 30 years out of date.

Zorro, you might find that those 'one size fits all' utility guys are going to be overwhelmed when there's a long string of games and several regulars get tired at the same time. I had trouble with that during the early part of the Beta. It's good to have versatile backups but you still need that depth IMO.

My notions are old too. The mid 60's Dodgers were my favorite brand of baseball. Give us 3 runs and we win

Treat your utility player like a starter and play him often. Fatigue is never a problem if you do. Depth is useless when no one will ever get hurt.

Yes, but if your position players tire you need a substitute. Of course utility players with multiple positions can remedy that.

In regular OOTP, I use 6 relievers. I've been rolling with 7 for PT, since most of my bullpen options are underwhelming and/or very low stamina.

I think an endgame team has high-stamina elite SPs, a 5-man bullpen, and platoons at the majority of lineup spots. But that requires having an amazing rotation and enough amazing hitters to make a platoon worthwhile, which effectively means having nearly two equally good lineups worth of hitters.

Until that point, I think there are a lot of equally valid ways of doing it. I've found it's often easier getting a solid bullpen in place than a lot of strong hitters, so I've tended to ignore platoons, barely use the bench, and use 7 or even 8 relievers.

Yeah, I have a backup catcher (who also backs up 1B) and 2 guys that backup the rest of the lineup.

I prefer 8 with a quick hook for both starters and relievers, but I am currently using 7 while I test some things out on the other half of the team.
