Suggestions -- In-game

--If something showed the movement of the game in the play-by-play that would be nice. Just a line connecting the last dot/location to the next. Perhaps a dashed line for a pass or shot or dump, a zig-zag line if a player skates to a new position. Draw the line in the color of a team, or use the Grey color for a loose puck. To get really fancy, you could possibly indicate the speed with the dash pattern. Slow is a dotted line, while a hard shot/dump would be longer dashes and shorter spaces.

This could help also with things like Dump-ins. To connect the dots from where the puck was, showing a long line down to the dump into the corner could make the play-by-play easier to follow.

-- Could add more info and drama to a shot. Just the line going to the goal, perhaps showing how hard the shot is would help make it clearer. To go further, I've got two further ideas.
--- I'd like to know how open/guarded a player is. The drama of watching live hockey is that you see a player get open, then you stand and watch if they get a shot off and if they score. So, something that indicates how open a player is before a shot would help add to the drama of the game. Simply coloring the outer circle of the Dot would help. Red for when a good defense is closing everything down, Green for when a player is wide open. It might also be interesting if you could show how well the Goalie is seeing this and is in position. Ie, something that indicates when the Goalie is screened, or when a goalie was on the far post and now is having to push across the crease to stop this shot.

------ It would also add drama if you got an indication of how tough the shot is for the goalie. Something that indicates a shot is a '1' difficulty, which means easy for the Goalie and he should stop it if he doesn't muff it. Or a '9' difficulty that says that stopping this shot is a highlight reel save by a star goalie. These two combined would add to the drama, as you'd see a player get open, you'd see the player launch the shot, you'd see how tough a save it is for the Goalie, then you'd find out whether the Goalie stopped the shot or not.

----- This could all help with 'odd-man-rushes' as well. You'd see the team breaking open on a rush as it happens, then see the result. Those would be exciting plays, that right now if they exist at all in the engine they are muted in the play-by-play window.

---- Another thing that could be added is 'short-term injuries' or equipment problems that take a player out of the rotation for a short while. You see these often in hockey. You see both the skate problems that cause a player to miss a shift. You also see the injuries that take a player out for a short while but the player returns before the game ends. Having to make a decision about whether a star player who is partially injured should play or sit would be interesting.

-- I'd love to be able to see the fatigue levels of the players from the Strategy tool. Right now, you can only see it when picking lines for a faceoff. Sometimes I'm only playing 3 lines, but I want to rotate those 4th line players into the top 3 lines to replace players who are getting tired. You could do this with display options for the 'Dressed' player list. Have a drop-down that changes from the default info to a fatigue list for the players, showing the Green and Blue bars. Another display option would be to display the full Game Ratings, Overall, Offense, and Defense in that area. Along the same lines, being able to easily see which players are missing, from penalties or other reasons, when picking lines or making Strategy decisions would be nice.
