Career Sims

I am in the 2042-43 season now of the NHL sim that I'm currently doing and most of the players that exist today are retired so I thought it would be fun to see how their careers have turned out.

First up are Alexis Lafreniere and Alexander Holtz who were both drafted by Ottawa in the first round of the 2020 Draft and played their whole careers together with the Senators. The Lafreniere/Holtz tandem brought two Stanley Cups to Ottawa.

Connor McDavid

McDavid spent his whole career in Edmonton and toughed out some brutal Oilers teams. He finally won his Stanley Cup the year before he retired. He won 8 Hart Trophies.

Jack Eichel

Jack Eichel was interesting to watch throughout his career. He seemed content to play on lowly Sabres teams until retirement like McDavid but then a surprise trade brought him to the New York Rangers where he teamed up with Kaapo Kakko and Aatu Raty to create one of the highest scoring trios I've ever seen. They only won one cup together, though, as their combined cap hits when Kakko and Raty came off their ELCs never allowed the Rangers to really spend on defense or anywhere else.

The Hughes Brothers

Quinn, Jack, and Luke were all NHL standouts for almost twenty years. Quinn and Luke stayed with the teams that drafted them - Vancouver and Minnesota respectively - while Jack played the majority of his career in New Jersey before spending his last few seasons in Philadelphia. All three brothers won Stanley Cups. One each for Jack and Luke and four for Quinn, who played on some great Vancouver teams with Pettersson and Boeser. He won five Norris Trophies.

Here are Quinn's career numbers.

The Hughes Brothers pt. 2

Jack was a late bloomer. He won the Hart Trophy twice after beginning his NHL career with three straight 30-point seasons.

The Hughes Brothers pt. 3

I didn't know what to expect when Luke got to the NHL, but he too was fantastic in Minnesota. The Wild were mediocre for much of his career, but managed to win a Stanley Cup.

Auston Matthews

Matthews led the Leafs to back-to-back Stanley Cups and probably would have won at least another in Toronto if it weren't for him leaving for a few years to play in Anaheim. Guy was a hell of a player and finished his career only behind Ovechkin and beat Gretzky in goals.

Dahlin was a Sabre for life. His number got retired in Buffalo at the end of his career and he won two Norris Trophies.

Petersen had one good season in LA, but mostly bounced back and forth between NHL and AHL.

Vilardi had some productive years in LA. Just a shame he spent three years in the KHL after becoming a Restricted Free Agent. He came back to LA and still put up some 50+ point seasons, though.

In my game Buffalo released Rasmus in the summer of 2022. Was suddenly Free Agent.

Ullmark played the majority of his NHL career in Calgary before heading back to Sweden in the tail end of it. he won a career-high 30 games for a horrible Flames team in 2021-22.

Ahhh, I hate it when teams would buy out superstars or release them for no reason.
