AI and Pitching Roles

One of my pet peeves in 2006 is how the AI will move an aging or borderline starter into the pen and sign him to a huge contract even though he's not a great pitcher. I believe it had something to do with the value of endurance in the equation or something like that. Has this been worked on?

Is warming up in the bullpen coming back in this edition, or no? (did not see it listed but figured I would ask all the same). I'd like to see it, as it is part of the big leagues, although I'd like to see it come into play for both human and computer alike (so the computer AI would have to figure on when to get people up).

- Added a bullpen warm-up rule option when playing out games

I always said it was worthless if the A/I didn't do it also. Even Tony LaRussa Baseball had A/I warmups.

It does need work. There are two months to work on it. It's being worked on feverishly.

See, it's the little issues like this and the retarded waiver AI that get me frustrated. I never expected perfect AI but I need enough realism to suspend my disbelief. This is why I'd be 100% happy if 2007 came out without a single new feature but all the legacy issue killed.

So does 2007 have it for both sides, or no?

Marc wants this dead, dead, dead, and there are people digging into this.

I'm with him 100%. Those two (waivers and inflated contracts for failed starters) that give me the most fits.

Put me down as someone who is opposed to the AI having to warm up its pitchers. It is essential to human strategy, but I want nothing getting in the way of the AI making sound in-game decisions. Adding another level of complexity to AI decision-making is, imo, the absolute wrong way to go.

Of course, as it was in previous versions, its use will be optional, I'm certain. As to its complexity, I agree, if it's done well. In other words, how many times has the pitcher started his warm up already, is he simply loose or has he moved to tired, does each pitcher have an endurance-related set number of pitches to reach readiness, or number of at-bats? For each manager, the combination of factors might be weighted differently. You're right, a Pandora's box, but an outstanding strategical addition if and when it's implemented with those kinds of considerations. Cosmetic doesn't cut it in the OOTP world anymore.

Pitching roles and Contracts

No doubt contract negotiations still take a pitcher's role into consideration, but I have a few related question with regard to the whole "role" subject:

Does the general order of preference for the AI remain, in descending order, SP-CL-MR? Does this version allow for any variation in positional preference, pitching or not?

Does the middle reliever's number of Holds play into his contract evaluation?

What happened to the IRS (Inherited Runs Scored) stat, and more importantly the IRS% stat, which I've always considered the most telling indicator of a good middle reliever? Is it buried as a filter option somewhere? I think it needs a deserved return to the front line of MR info and should be a factor in contract negotiations - the latter in some future version perhaps.

The AI in general in the most recent version of the game is just hard to swallow. I'm sure it's been covered a thousand times on the board, but I'm not a frequent visitor to the forums. As a veteran of OOTP for several years now, I gotta say, the game may have taken huge strides forward in overall presentation and the number of features available, but the AI has taken huge, huge hits. I hope they work on it for the next version so I can justify purchasing it.

In addition desiring answers to these questions,
going to bump the bolded early. This was in 6.51 < and strongly believe it needs to be in the go-forward versions, including v2007.
