I don't take that to quote to mean that Beane is saying that Eck is a good player. What he's saying is that if, say Miguel Tejada or Eric Chavez or similarly talented players would see the number of pitches Eck did they would be better for it.

I wrote another sentence after what you quoted. That's my stance. I doubt even Beane has quantified Eck's worth to a team.

I apologize... I didn't mean to imply that I had completely disqualified what you said afterward... and I can definitely see how you could have taken my response as just that.

My point is that he probably admires Eck's ability to see a lot of pitches per plate appearance (3.8 for his career), and that is probably what the statement in question meant.

I'd like to see that.

Eckstein is the new Womack? Maybe the Cardinals can trade him to the Yankees this offseason to play 2B.

He's doing well but that OBP is bound to drop with the average. His BB rate is up this year though which is a good sign. He's still just slugging under .400 though and unfortunately for him, that is not bound to change.

And the SB actually hurt him since he's also been caught 4 times.

Steve Sax was a good player, certainly better than Weiss/Duncan/Eckstein.

Maybe. But not in 1990 when he was an All-Star.

Eckstein's OBP is 86 points higher than his average (.372 OBP, .286 avg), so say Ecks hits his lifetime average of .279, his OBP should be around .365. That's way higher than the Lavg.

No doubt. Maybe he's a late bloomer and he'll continue to improve. The OBP is pretty impressive, for sure.

Eckstein is having a decent year at the plate. His current EQA is .264. Nice for a SS. RATE has him figured as pretty lousy in the field this year. I'd certainly be curious as to how the other metrics have Eck rated.

Solo karate action.

Must've been a trademark.

Try 1991 or 1992 Upper Deck. A hunch.

Eck is a very, very solid player...but he's an allstar thanks to the general dearth in the NL at the position. Still, he's not a bad player. Like Duncan and Sax. Not great, but not bad. Certainly good enough to have on your team.
