Indianapolis Cyclones - One More Step

-- I want everyone to know before hand that I wont be posting a lot of statistics in this, but I will be posting has many has I think are necessary, feel free to comment and let me know what you think and give any advice. The Premier Baseball League is a fictional league that I created with created teams and what have you. --

1970
Indianapolis
The Premier Baseball League began in 1970. In Indianapolis a young man by the name of Tyler Cox was named has the GM and looked to take this small team and make it into PBL Champions. With their fans and owner behind him, Cox took his team out and prepared them for the tough times ahead. Compared to much larger cities such as Chicago, Dallas, Oklahoma, and Los Angeles, the Cyclones were a smaller team in terms of money, and resources. However, that didnt stop them from achieveing a record of 80-82. A saticfactory result for this relatively young team, and manager Tyler Cox was very pleased. The team finished third in the National League Division 1, 10 games behind the division winners. They also had an average ERA of 4.35 and an average BA BIP of 3.14.

PBL
In the inaugural season, the American League Champion Dallas Rockers defeated the National League Champion Nashville Blues after a decisive 4-1 series. Dallas won 100 games in 1970, and finished top of the American League while Nashville got the Wildcard berth and were able to make it all the way to the PBL Title Series.

1971
Indianapolis

1971 was a rather dissappointing year for the Cyclones. Another 3rd place finish in the Division saw them achieve a record of 79-83. The season went from bad to worse when star pitcher Nigel McDonald tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, he was later dropped from them roster due to the owners low tolerance for drug abuse. Cox knew that the team needed a turn around. Cox and the fans were craving a spot in playoffs.

PBL
The American League once again took the crown of best in the PBL when the Portland Gunners made a huge turn around from a 65-97 record a year before to a 92-70 record and a PBL title. They defeated the Chicago Black Cats after a thrilling series, 4-3.

1972
Indianapolis

1972 saw the Cyclones finally break through and play the type of ball that Cox had been trying to get out of them. With a record of 89-73, Indianapolis finished second in their division, and made a playoff appearance by virtue of being the top team in the Wildcard race. This exciting season saw many exciting games, including a 13-0 win over the runners up from the year before, Chicgao Black Cats. That game gave Indianapolis their first win over Chicago since the inception of the PBL.
PBL
For the third year in a row the American League won the PBL title with the Houston Steers defeating the Omaha Commanchees 4-1 in a battle of the South. Houston won a league best 103 games, losing only 59, and since then, no team has been able to match that record.

1973
Indianapolis
1973 was yet another breakout year for the Cyclones winning a franchise best 91 games and winning their first division title. Two big pieces of news from '73 was the signing of Ruben Morales and Ricardo Gonzalez. Gonzalez took the National Big Hitter award with 35 HR, 105 RBIs and a VORP of 73.0. Their playoff run saw them get beaten in the first round for a second straight year, this time by Chicago Black Cats after a 3-1 series that saw game three go to 17 innings and game four go to 13 innings, with Indy losing both by merely a single run.
PBL
The Houston Steers made a second straight trip the PBL title game, this time against Chicago Black Cats who were trying to make up for the dissappointment of losing in '71. They were able to beat Houston, and did it in style running out 4-0 winners in a crushing series.

1974
Indianapolis

1974 was indeed a transitional year for the Cyclones has they were narroly beaten for the NL Wildcard place by one game. The Cyclones finished 86-76 after a season of lackluster performances. Without any big name signings from the offseason before, Indy could not capitolize on the great season they had a year before.
PBL
The 1974 Premier Baseball League Title Series saw the re-kindling of the final the previous year when Chicago met Houston for the seond straight year and Houston making a third final in a row. Not much would change from the year before, anc Chicago would win comfortably 4-2 after jumping out to an early 3-0 advantage to become the first repeat PBL Champions.

1975
Indianapolis

After the PBL reformed their playoff picture to 16 teams instead of 8, many more teams saw this opportunity and jumped all over it and played their hearts out for the opportunity to get to the big dance. Indianapolis was one of those teams. They finished 89-73, one game away from clinching a second division title. They made the playoffs by being one of two wildcard teams, and playing defending champions Chicago Black Cats for a third consecutive year. They exorcised their demons and defeated the champs 3-1 in the round of 16. The Semi-Finals were the farthest Indy would go, falling two games short and losing to the Boston Patriots.
PBL
After defeating Indianapolis 4-2 in the Semi-Finals, the Boston Patriots would face none-other then the best team in the American League, the Houston Steers. Boston would win the Championship on this go around leaving Houston title-less for the third consecutive year, and making both American and National League 3-3 in PBL Title Series since the PBL began.

The Future...
With the 1976 season about to begin, the Indianapolis Cyclones have been working hard in pre-season and the front office has been working hard to sign some big name players for the challenges ahead. With marquee players such has Jorge Linares, Brad Nelson, and the ever reliable Ricardo Gonzalez playing for the Cyclones the future looks bright. The ball club, the owner, the fans, and Tyler Cox all know that it is merely a matter of time until a PBL title will be in their trophy cabinet.

1976 Season Review
The 1976 Season was yet another turbulent season fir the Indianapolis Cyclones. A year that began with optimism, had a rocky middle, and ultimately ended with the team playing the best baseball it has in its history. A great 106-56 record saw Indy finish 18 games ahead of the San Francisco Rovers and claim a second Division title in four years. They achieved a league best of an ERA of 3.20 and a batting average of .265. Right Fielder Shawn Wright led the team in Home Runs with 24 and 104 RBIs. Steve McLaughlin had a 22 win season and Jorge Linares had an ERA of 2.84. And in his final season, Rick Warner had 151 strikeouts, 43 more then McLaughlin who finished with 108. The whole team finished with a league best 609 runs allowed. With only two losses less then the National Leagues best and defending champions, the Boston Patriots, Indianapolis was able to assert themselves into the playoffs. The team saw its way into the Quarter Finals of the PBL Title Series but were once again defeated. They faced the reigning champions the Boston Patriots but were beaten 4 games to 3, after Boston took a 3-0 lead in the series.
PBL
The Boston Patriots became the second consecutive National League side to retain the PBL title. 1971 winners Portland were their opposition this year and were defeated after 5 games. For a fourth straight year the National League reigned supreme and Boston became the latest two time champions.
