The Indianapolis Cyclones...Can Cox Make It To The Big Dance?
8 years into the Premier Baseball League Era and only 6 different team have won the PBL Championship. Dallas in 1970, Portland in '71, Houston in '72, Chicago in '73 & '74, Boston in '75 & '76, and Seattle in '77. Tyler Cox, the manager of the Indianapolis Cyclones, has made 5 playoff appearances in those 7 years has well as 2 Division titles. The Cyclones have twice made a trip to the semi-finals of the PBL Title Series but were merely stepping stones for eventual champions Boston in '75 and runners up Los Angeles in '77. The fans hope that Indy's time will come but will it be with the current squad that the team has or will it be 20 years down the road?
The Cyclones have proved that they can play great ball and can win big games, but they have yet to win when it counts the most, and that is in the playoffs. The pressure is beginning to mount on Cox from the fans, owner, and himself.
"We have been so close to achieving what we want, and that is the PBL title. Semi-Finalists in '75 and '77 isnt enough for me, and it isnt ebough for the players. We all want more. We have a great squad of fantastic baseball players but there has been that one piece of the puzzle that has been missing and we are hoping that we can find it for the 1978 season. Everyone assoiciated with Indianapolis feels mine and the players pain everytime the season ends and when we have come up just shy of our mark. However, we take every punch on the chin and we buck up and keep going. We all believe that '78 will be our season." - Tyler Cox on CycloneTV.
If optimism would win a team titles then the Cyclones would have won the PBL every other season. The Cyclones have the determination, the heart, and the stars to become the PBL champions, but they know that they are missing something. Could 1978 be there season?
