ammy draft

first year players will be subject to a draft. Real negro league players will enter the NBL the year they made their debut in the real negro leagues...

There may be exceptions to this rule....For example, Jackie Robinson joined the real negro leagues in his mid-20s after attending UCLA and the armed services. We may try to entice Jackie to joining the NBL at age 18.

NBL Draftboard

Thanks for the interest in the league. There is still a lot of work to do on the web page and league file.

I have started to do a very brief writeup of each player I create for the league file. If you want to check it out, click here:

This is exactly what I was longing for a couple days ago in my thread about lack of imagination in new leagues. Finally we see someone putting some imagination, some work, and some passion into a new league. Of course by limiting it to 8 teams, at this point he's going to need a lottery system to fill it!

8 teams is a very low number, he is right.
Might I suggest we use a mixture of real and fantasy players to fill more teams?

At the outset, the league size will likely remain at eight. I do not want to use fictional players at all.

But, I am thinking about adding more teams. If not at the outset, maybe we will add a couple of expansion clubs after a season or two. Or perhaps,(although not likely) I may add another league to the baseball universe, like the Pacific Coast League. I am still mulling this over...

Interest seems to be high and I would hate to leave teams out. I understand wanting to use only historical players, but 8 teams is very low. Was the PCL another negro league? All I know about it now is that it is a AAA minor league.

Pcl

The Pcl was not a negro league. The PCL was a minor league, but it was a league that played a very high caliber of baseball. In fact, many believed that the PCL would have become a third major league (joining the AL and NL) had the Dodgers and Giants not moved to the west coast in 1958. Some players chose the PCL over MLB. (Anyone ever hear about Steve Bilko?)

The PCL was granted "open classification" status by Major League Baseball in 1952 and as such was recognized as a super minor league, but that was as close to the major leagues that the PCL would ever get.

I'll offer this suggestion/point of view:

154 games is alot for 8 teams to play, IMO.

We have 12 teams in the Pro Circuit and play a 126 game schedule. It works out great and I've upped the development curve on ammies just a bit so it won't take them as long to mature.

Two good suggestions. How do you adjust the development curve on ammies?

Also, if I begin the league in 1930 with a fantasy draft, when will the first ammy draft take place 1930 or 1931?

And lastly, regarding the fantasy draft, is there a free online draft software that can be used for an OOTP6 league?

Development adjustment is built into v6 now.

1931

See/search for chris gattuso or his draft software.
We used it in the Circuit and it worked great.

If it makes any difference. I would still prefer a 154 game schedule to have a frame of reference to major league players.

More teams?

I am going to go through the Negro League Encyclopedia by James Riley so I can determine how many players will be available for the 1930 season. If enough players are available I will consider adding as many as four teams to the league, for a total of 12.

Ideally, I would like to have 35+ players per team.

Depending on league setup/rules and how much free time I envision myself having in the near future, I might have an interest as well. Also, since you mentioned the slight possibility of including the PCL - even if it's solely due to high owner interest - it could work out well that you could have the PCL and Negro Leagues as a sort of MLB-like AL/NL with the winner of the PCL and Negro Leagues facing each other in a sort of World Series. But that's just a suggestion in an attempt to deal with the possible high demand

Nbl Update!

I am still trying to figure out how many players will be available for the NBL. I have been working on brief comments about the players on the player profile page. You can check out what I've done thus far by clicking here:

I love the Oscar Charleston comment. Someone really need to write a book on the man since to my knowledge none exists. Quite possibly the greatest ballplayer who ever existed.
