Smile Perfect Team - First Screenshots Released + New Info

Hello everybody,

as we are nearing the start of the closed beta of Perfect Team, we figured it's a good time to release the first screenshots and more information about this amazing new game mode!

What is Perfect Team?
Perfect Team is a new, free online multiplayer mode that will be available to all owners of Out of the Park Baseball 19 via a free update of the game. A public open beta launch is currently scheduled for late October. Players will compete against each other in a dynamic online league universe, fielding their own versions of “Perfect Teams” culled from digital baseball cards collected over time. Teams will battle each other in simulated online leagues of 30 teams each, featuring 5 league levels (Bronze level, Silver level, Gold level, Diamond level, Perfect Leagues).

How do I build my team?
The first time you enter the Perfect Team universe, you will receive your own personal team which you can customize to your heart's content. Everyone will start out with a set of 6 card packs to open that will immediately yield an entire team to put on the field. As players explore Out of the Park Baseball 19 (in Challenge Mode) and Perfect Team, unlocking achievements and special game performances will earn them more card packs or in-game currency (Perfect Points) to acquire more card packs (or individual player cards on the marketplace) and ultimately craft a team built the way they like it - with players spanning the entire history of the sport.

How does league play work?
Simulations run 28 times a day, in 30-minute intervals. At that pace, an entire season is completed within one week. Between simulations you can make changes to your team (eg. setting up lineups, strategies etc.), scout your upcoming opponent, make roster moves or acquire more cards via packs or on the marketplace. But be aware, the clock is ticking!

After a season is over, the top teams of a league will get promoted to the next level, while the bottom teams will be relegated to a league one level below. The number of teams which get promoted / relegated will depend on several factors, for example total number of leagues at a certain level.

The ultimate goal is to reach one of the Major Leagues with your Perfect Team, compete for World Series titles and climb the ranking of the best Perfect Team managers worldwide!

Summary
As we strive to grow our audience, Perfect Team helps bring new fans to the game plus gives longtime players a new and interesting way to compete against other OOTP community members. We are very excited to bring this to you, and can’t wait for everyone to give it a shot!

Screenshots
Okay, enough with the talking. Here are the first Perfect Team screenshots! Please keep in mind that these are from a pre-beta version of the game, and things like card & screen designs may change until the final launch later this fall.

Initial Setup Screen
Once you have signed up to Perfect Team (it uses the same OOTP account as the solo Challenge Mode) and entered the Perfect Team area of the game via the OOTP entry screen, you can name your team and open your six Starter Packs, which contain the first 36 players for your Perfect Team.

Pack Opening
This is a screenshot from the pack opening scene. It's a really beautiful 3D animation (kudos to Jorin who spent months coding it) with nice sound & graphical effects. It can be customized in terms of animation speed / delays to suit your taste.

Here I got lucky and pulled a very rare Diamond 1920's Rogers Hornsby Historical Legend card!

Team Design
Once you have opened your Starter Packs, your team will be added to the so-called entry pool. Here you will play random opponents, simulations run every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day. Once the regular leagues have completed their current season, your team will enter the Rookie Leagues and your journey to the top of the Perfect Team universe begins. While in the entry pool (and after every completed regular season) you can customize your team design. Pick a logo out of hundreds of real MLB & MiLB logos, historical MLB logos and 800 fictional logos. You will also be able to upload your own custom team logo. Design your uniforms and team colors and even set up your home ballpark, including dimensions and park factors. Create your very own Perfect Team!

Perfect Team Home Screen
The central hub of the Perfect Team section of OOTP. See the result of the last simulated game (you can watch the entire replay or 3D highlights, too), check the standings, get an overview of your active roster, see your unopened card packs, recent achievements and their Perfect Points payout etc.

Team Roster Screen
This is the place where you manage the roster of your Perfect Team. The limit of player cards on your active roster is 25, the limit on the reserve roster is 175 player cards. On top of that, your collection can have an unlimited number of cards which are deactivated. Your entire collection can be managed (including activating/deactivated/selling cards) in a different card collection screen.

Player Card Screen - MLB Live Card
Perfect Team essentially features two types of cards, MLB Live Cards (~800) and special cards which are historical players mostly (~1200). Live cards will get weekly real-time updates of their ratings and overall card value during the regular season, which obviously is more a feaure for OOTP 20 now that the 2018 regular MLB season is almost over. The MLB Live Cards of the OOTP 19 version of Perfect Team will have their ratings primarily be based on the real 2018 MLB stats already.

There are 6 different card value categories:
Regular: 40 - 59
Bronze: 60 - 69
Silver: 70-79
Gold: 80-89
Diamond: 90-99
PERFECT: 100

Yes, we have some extremely rare Perfect Cards. Isn't that cool?

Here's a bronze 2018 MLB Live Card. You will be able to see the card in full resolution (400 * 600) on a different tab, by the way.

Player Card Screen - Historical Player
We have several different historical player card categories (eg. Historical All-Stars, Legends, Record-Breakers, Rookie Sensations etc.) for a total of about 1200 historical cards. Card designs are based on the different decades, we tried to reproduce an authentic look of real baseball cards during that specific era.

Some legendary players (think Ruth, Griffey, Koufax etc) have cards in multiple categories, by the way.

Historical cards are twice as rare as MLB live cards within their respective card value category.

Settings Screen
The Perfect Team experience can be customized to match your style of play, the settings screen contains the options available. By the way, you will also be able to change the rating scales (the default is 1-100), but that option is still missing on this screenshot.

Okay, that's it for now. We will post more info and have a vast launch campaign once we start with the public beta late October. So, stay tuned!

Markus & the OOTP Team

We'll likely offer league systems with a slower pace in future versions. But for now we want to keep the waiting time in the entry pool to a minimum, so we'll try to complete a 162 game season + playoffs in a single week. Also, most people like a faster pace so waiting time between simulations is minimal

Will the point system be based off team performance and will players be able to buy better cards (a pay-to-win system)?

The more & better/rare achievements your players / team earns (eg. a player hitting 3 HR in a game, or a team victrory after being down by 5 runs...) the more Perfect Points you earn, which in turn allow you to get more player card packs. You can also earn new player card packs by unlocking achievements in Challenge Mode solo leagues. And yes, you can also buy Perfect Points with real money if you so desire.

And how much will they cost?

And if you win do you get valuable prices since money is now involved?

So I'm guessing Oggy will own all the player card packs an hour or so after Perfect Team goes live?

The only perfect card in the game … is Oggy.

1000 Perfect Points, which equal the price of a regular player card pack (6 cards) costs USD 0.99. This is the base price, but we are offering several packages which will include up to 75% bonus points, depending on quantity.

If you win you get more Perfect Points, but these cannot be converted back to real money, that would get us into gambling territory so it won't happen.

Nope, we'll have all sorts of (server-based) checks in place to prevent cheating here.

So those who have never played OOTP challenge mode will be at a disadvantage. That does not seem fair for a roll out of a new game. I am an on-line league player only right now.

No. Challenge Mode achievements which have been accumulated already do not count, so everybody starts off with a blank slate in terms of PT-related rewards once we launch the public beta.

so the player card packs are totally random.
so that means if i get 100 card packs and they all give me bronze or silver players and other people get gold, diamond and perfect cards, that means no matter how well i put a team together, a team with a whole bunch of dominic smith and Jason Vargas type players have no chance of beating a team full of sandy koufax and babe ruth type players.
How is that fair?

On the positive, i do like your choice for one of the players on the front of the card pack packaging.

No way the '69 Mets beat the Orioles in a World Series... I'd bet my life on that... way too much talent on the Orioles.
