The base Potential Ratings will give them basically their career averages. Might want to turn Player Development off. League setup - Global Setup.
The year is just the year you want them to start from. You can do rookie year and have them play like an all star from year one with Career on. Remaining years and they develop for the most part as they did IRL. Don't be surprised when players dont live up to RL expectations. Best Ruth ever did for me was 600 or so HR. Best I have seen him at was I think 690 HR.

I am having issues with a league. I started a 1901 league. There are 1157 FA. I have players that retired 10+ seasons ago. I have Max Carey whose rookie season is 1910. Gambo DB, neutralized stats.

Ok. I got it now... I can make a txt file with each team's roster and import them that way... I thought I could just import the whole database of players and then just sign them to teams.
This way is more controlled and keeps the app running smoother, since there won't be many extraneous players.

I download spritze's ootp 14 from his webpage. I want to play a historical career play with random debut. When I go to draft there are no players in the database. What am I doing wrong? I selected random debut.

select import historical rookies also. RD wont work without both checked.

Thanks man. Is it possible to have players random debut all at the first actual debut to start off with? So the players would all be 18 or whatever youthful age.

Start as a fictional league and then after league creation pout the draft date for June (can keep it for NOV) go under League Setup - check import historical rookies & ED and then change the database path under Options to whichever DB you want to use. Another way is to start fictional with draft to debut before the season. delete all active fictional players on draft day then start with 25+ 18 yr old rookies. But everyone did poorly last time I tried that. Highest avg was .280 by Willie Mays.

Stupid question. Where is the select import historical rookies? On historical play/replay setup there is only a box for random debut. Import career history is the other box I'm seeing. Thanks.

This is for a fictional league. For a historical league it is under Historical.

I still can't get the players to show in the draft pool. I have both of those boxes clicked. Spritze 14 Database struggles to load up I might add. It goes in and out responding and not responding. When the games loads after about a 10 minute load, it has no players.

Haven't tried Gambo/Spritze database yet. Works fine with normal in-game database. Also Spritze's 14 database works when doing a regular historical start with no random player debuts.

This is abnormal behavior, perhaps the file got corrupted on download? None of the old in and out should be happening and does not when tested on my home computer. It does take about 10 minutes the first time one runs an import in a new game. Subsequent years are much fasterer.

What year are you starting with? When is your draft set for? Did you start as fictional or historical? i will test it myself.
Spritze does your DB require Neutralized stats? for either historical or RD?
I have yet to try either for a RD league on 14.

I don't think the file is corrupted. It may have just have been the first time doing the in and out. It's only when trying to start with a historical replay with random debut where no players show up. If I start, say a 1915 season, which I have open right now, everything works fine and looks good.

Modern 2005+ and either in 2005 or 2012.

Draft is set to go when the game loads up.

Historical, or custom and then I choose historical replay

I don't think the file is corrupted. It could be, but it works on a regular historical play startup with no random debut. It may have just have been the first time when it did the in and out. It's only when trying to start with a historical replay with random debut where no players show up. If I start, say a 1915 season with no random debut, which I have open right now, everything works fine and looks good.

I'm not sure OOTP will let you be random in 2012. Try a random but start in 1950. If that works you can try 2000 and creep forward until it don't work.

In past years I just copied and pasted Spritze's database into the stats folder (having saved the original files first). What's the best setup to use you think?

Also how do you go about importing specific players from one of the databases into a fictional or MLB 2013 league?

Am I correct that this latest version GamboSpritze14v2 doesn´t include players that made their MLB debut during 2012 ??

I had a look at Adam C. Eaton and he wasn´t in the master.csv file.

The new Lahman DB 2012 include this player and of course all players that made their MLB debut for 2012.

If they are not included in 14v2 how do I get them into the game (if I reach the year 2012 soon enough in my game)

I understand that since the odb-file was included mixing and editing by oneself in the master.csv and other important csv-files wasn´t very good.

What is your advice ?

In this Adam C. Eaton case he did start his pro-career in 2010, so getting him in as Gambos DB adjustments must be made to original Lahman DB.
