16 in 16 - Worst of all-time

Going off of the OOTP team's 16 in 16 event, I was thinking, and sorry if this is not an original idea, that we do a worst teams of all-time tournament.

16 teams, best-of-7, the worse the team the higher their seed. Higher seeds do NOT get homefield advantage and play in the other team's era with the loser advancing to the next round.

Any thoughts?

I think I saw someone just do something almost exactly like this last week. Check the dynasty threads if you want to check it out.

2004 Diamondbacks. Randy Johnson put up 8.3 WAR and they still managed to lose 111 games. That takes talent. -284 Run Differential as well. Icky.

Take your pick from the St. Louis Browns portion of the Baltimore Orioles franchise. Terribad! 1910 St. Louis Browns are the worst of the bunch, but there are a lot of bad ones in there. 1910 Browns 47-107 with a -292 Run Differential. Puke.

1932 Red Sox are an abomination too. 43-111 with a -349 Run Differential.

2003 Tigers. 43-119... -337 Run Differential. 1905 Brooklyn Superbas...48-104... -301 Run Differential. 1903, 1904, and 1909 Washington Senators. 1908 New York Highlanders. 1962 and 1963 Mets.

We're talking about the worst of the worst of all-time. No doubt the 2010 Mariners were bad (they lost 101 games), but they weren't epically, couldn't tie their shoelaces bad.

So does actually the loser of a series advance to the next round?

Yeah, I think you'd have to have at least 110 losses to even be included in the discussion.

What you could do is take the 8 oldest teams and have their worst (or is it wurst, tee hee) two teams play each other? There are some pretty bad Phillies, Brown/Orioles, Senators/Twins teams out there.

Certainly for the top 16. Top 64, that Mariners team might be there.

actionjackson's reviews of the worst team candidates is worth the price of admission alone.
