One of the more interesting World Series matchups I've seen
It's 2021 and the Padres & Orioles are about to battle it out for the right to be crowned the World Series Champs. They haven't won it all since 1987 and 1986 respectively, so it has been a long time coming for their fans.
Both teams are undefeated in the playoffs and have looked completely unstoppable. Baltimore won the season series 2-1. The San Diego Padres (96-66) swept the Atlanta Braves (94-68) and the reigning champs - the Pittsburgh Pirates (102-60) who had just swept the 93-69 Marlins. Everyone was picking the Pirates to repeat. The Baltimore Orioles (88-74) have been the surprise of the postseason. They barely squeaked into the Wildcard (where they defeated the Rays, last year's AL Champs)..and went on to sweep the powerhouse Houston Astros (104-58) in one of the greatest upsets of this generation and the New York Yankees (92-70). The Orioles are lead by 2020 Cy Young winner Kevin Williams and 3x all-star (and Silver Slugger) winning Chad Van Gordon. They were 3rd in homers in the AL, and can definitely mash. The Padres are lead by future HOFer Simon Stamper and Gustavo Marte - who broke out big time last year. They feature 2 aces in Victor Benavides and probable Cy Young winner Mike Withrow (19-7, 2.26 ERA). It shows, as they were 1st in runs against and 2nd in starters ERA. They were actually 14th in runs scored and rely heavily on their starting pitching. Definitely looking forward to watching this one unfold. Last edited by Habsfan18; 08-05-2015 at 05:48 PM. |

My favorite WS matchup I've seen in my games was former AL team MIL representing the National League & former NL team HOU representing the American League
