Question about FA Compensation

So I've got the most recent CBA option checkbox thing turned on

I know if a player needs to be on the team the whole season to be eligible for compensation (along with the other stuff like me extending a qualifying offer & such), but I just wanted to make sure that by saying the player needs to be on the team for the entire season, it means that he's on my team's roster before we play our first game all the way through the end of the season when he hits FA

Only asking b/c it's after spring training, but before the season starts & I'm thinking of making a trade for a closer that I likely won't re-sign after the season. So, wanting to make sure that he would be compensation-eligible before I make the move for him. Just want to make sure OOTP's version of season doesn't include spring training or something like that

You should be fine. I've signed players just before Opening Day and always received compensation if I didn't re-sign them that offseason.
