Walkers news: Player statistics and awards for May

Player of the Month: Outfielder Larry Ernesto, the 23-year-old switch-hitter batted .280 with three homers and 10 RBIs in 28 games. He scored nine runs while posting an on-base percentage of .337 and a slugging percentage of .419.
Starting pitcher of the month: Jimmy Lambert, the 29-year-old right-hander went 1-1 in five starts with a 2.81 ERA. He worked a total of 32 innings, posting a WHIP of 0.97 and striking out 21.
Relief pitcher of the month: Phil Maton, the 30-year-old right-hander appeared in 14 games going 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA. He worked 11.2 innings, posting a WHIP of 1.11 and striking out 14.

Walkers news: June 1 -- Kansas City 4, St. Louis 2

Record: 23-32, 5th (Tied/w. Kansas City), 6.5 GB Springfield
Kansas City overcame an early 2-0 deficit to down St. Louis 4-2 at Busch Stadium (1997).
A two-run double from rookie Tanner Kohlhepp in the bottom of the first off Pit Masters starter Pablo Lopez staked the River Walkers to a quick lead.
Greg Jones wiped that out with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the second, striking a two-out, two-run homer off St. Louis starter Alex Faedo.
By the bottom of the fifth, the Masters led 4-2.
An error at third by Kohlhepp got things going putting Mookie Betts on to leadoff the inning.
Matt Duce followed with a double, moving Betts to third.
Lopez, the pitcher, than connected on an RBI infield hit to snap the tie.
Danny Cushing later scored Duce with a sacrifice fly.
Lopez worked five innings, giving up the two runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked one.
The Masters employed six relievers to close out the win.
Andrew Ryan tossed a scoreless sixth and Zach Burdi took care of the ninth for his 11th save.
In between. Cam Bedrosian (0.1 IP), Giovanny Gallegos (0.2), Austin Hansen (0.2) and David Berg (0.1) all got work and kept St. Louis off the scoreboard.

Pinch-hitter Jean Carmona doubled with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to drive in Jared Thomas with the game's lone run as St. Louis downed Kansas City 1-0 in 10 inning at Busch Stadium (1997).
With the victory, the River Walkers salvaged the final game of the three-game series after dropping the first two.
Gonzalez was hit by a Kyle Nelson pitch to open the bottom of the 10th.
Pit Masters starting pitcher Kyle Wright had worked nine scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out five and walking one.
A single from Jared Thomas off Nelson moved Gonzalez to second.
Christian Arroyo attempted to get down a bunt, only to have Gonzalez be thrown out at third.
But Carmona drove the second pitch he saw over the right-fielder's head, allowing Thomas to score the only run of the game.
Walkers starting pitcher Argenis Batista didn't allow a run either in six innings. He allowed six hits with nine strikes outs and a pair of walks.
Nick Lodolo worked two scoreless innings of relief and Phil Maton handled five outs.
John Curtiss (3-1) got the final out of the 10th, but it was enough to earn him the win.

The St. Louis River Walkers gave Edwin Diaz a ton of money in the offseason to be their closer.
Maybe he should give it back to them.
A pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Prairie Fighters reliever D.J. Jefferson -- Romy Gonzalez plating both with a triple -- had put St. Louis up 2-1.
But Diaz could not maintain it.
He struck out the first two hitters, before walking Nate Traylor.
Michael Brantley followed with a single.
Trevor Lanarch then connecting for an RBI double to tie it, as Diaz blew his third save of the season.
Kansas City put up three runs in the 10th against the struggling St. Louis bullpen.
Odubel Herrera led off with a single off Jake Brentz, who then hit the next batter, Jorge Alfaro, before exiting.
Kenley Jansen continued to let the fire blast.
Allowing the first batter he faced, Eugenio Suarez, to double as K.C. went in front 3-2.
Pitcher, PITCHER, Gerson Moreno followed with a single scoring another run.
With the game growing out of hand, and the bullpen already run ragged, Wander Samual Franco plated the inning's third run with a sacrifice fly.
Masters starter Scott Gingery worked 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing six hits while striking out two and walking one.
Steckenrider handled 1.2 innings. before giving way to Jefferson, who recorded just one out and allowed St. Louis only two runs.
Jake Diekman finished off the eighth.
Moreno (3-2) allowed two hits but no runs over the ninth and 10th to earn his third win.

Andrew Benintendi tripled to score two runs and later scored what proved-to-be the game-winning run as St. Louis scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to carry it past Springfield 4-3 at Busch Stadium (1997).
The Prairie Fighters' Nate Traylor had hit a two-run homer off River Walkers reliever Nick Lodolo in the top of the eighth, giving Springfield a 3-1 lead.
It was the second home run of the game for Trayor, who had hit a lead-off homer off St. Louis starting pitcher Steven Brault in the fourth to put the Fighters up 1-0.
Pinch-hitter Larry Ernesto drew a lead-off walk from Springfield reliever Thomas Szapucki to open the bottom of the eighth.
Ernesto moved to third when Alek Thomas reached on an error by Fighters third baseman Andres Gimenez.
Ryan Pressley took over on the mound for Springfield, retiring the next two to keep it 3-1.
Benintendi, however, followed with his triple a shot to the gap in left-center on a 1-1 pitch from Szapucki.
Romy Gonzalez quickly snapped the tie with an RBI single off Szapucki to score Beninendi.
Brault worked 6.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out seven and walked three.
Lodolo (2-2) finished the seventh inning and worked the eighth, allowing the Traylor two-run homer.
Edwin Diaz had a clean ninth for his ninth save.

Christian Arroyo's bases-loaded single with the bases-loaded off Jake Diekman scored Michael Toglia to give St. Louis a 5-4 win in 10 innings over Springfield at Busch Stadium (1997).
The River Walkers had loaded the bases against Gerson Moreno with two walks and a hit batsman.
Diekman came on and got Alek Thomas to fly out.
Arroyo, however, drove the second pitch he saw between the shortop and third base to bring in Toglia, who had walked to open the inning.
St. Louis rallied from a 4-1 deficit, as the Prairie Fighters got two solo homers from Odubel Herrera and one from Nate Traylor off Walkers starter Aaron Nola.
An RBI double from Jean Carmona in the fifth off Springfield starter Danny Duffy sliced the deficit to 4-2.
The Walkers tied it in the eighth on a two-run double from Romy Gonzalez off reliever Thomas Szapucki.
Nola lasted six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.
Caleb Ferguson handled a pair of scoreles innings.
Phil Maton got the first two outs of the ninth, before giving way to Jake Brentz (2-4) who finished it off and for it earned his second win.

Springfield scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to snap a 4-4 tie, twice on bases-loaded walks, and went on for a 9-4 win over St. Louis at Busch Stadium (1997).
With the victory, the Prairie Fighters split the four-game series with the River Walkers.
A three-run top of the third inning had staked Springfield to a 4-0 lead.
Trevor Lanarch and Nate Traylor both had RBI singles off Walkers starter Alex Faedo while Jonathan Lucroy plated the third run with a sacrifice fly.
St. Louis answered right away and tied it in the bottom of the third.
Andrew Benintendi drove in the first run with a double while the second came home on a single by Larry Ernesto.
Michael Toglia then tied it with a two-run shot off Fighters starting pitcher Michael Santos.
Faedo was still on the mound when things fell part for the Walkers in the fifth.
He allowed four straight battters -- a double by Wander Samuel Franco, a single by Trevor Lanarch, a hit by pitch against Nate Traylor and a bases-loaded to Lucroy -- to open the inning.
His replacemen, John Curtiss, then allowed a one-out RBI single to Max Schrock and a bases-loaded walk to Andres Gimenez.
Springfield tacked on two more runs in the eighth against reliever Kenley Jansen.
Franco, who was 4 for 5 with two doubles and a homer, drove in the first run with his second two-bagger of the game.
Larnach plated the game's final run with a sacrifice fly.
Santos (4-5) allowed four runs on seven hits over five innings.
Ryan Pressley took care of the sixth inning.
D.J. Jefferson (1.2 IP), Wade Davis (0.1) and Drew Steckenrider (1.0) combined to silence the Walkers the rest of the way.

Tanner Kohlhepp hit a two-run home run off Detroit relief pitcher Luis Avilan in the sixth inning to put St. Louis in front 3-2 and it stayed that way the rest of the game, as the River Walkers posted a win at Busch Stadium (1997).
Kohlhepp's homer helped earn a win for St. Louis starter Argenis Batista (2-5), who allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings.
He struck out six and walked one.
Wheelmen second baseman Shina Mori hit solo homers off Batista in the first and third innings, giving Detroit a 2-0 lead.
Larry Ernesto led off the fourth with a single for St. Louis off Detroit starter Luca Dalatari and scored on a sacrifice fly to get the Walkers on the board.
Phil Maton recorded the first out of the eighth. Jake Brentz got the other two.
Closer Edwin Diaz handled the ninth, earning his 10th save.

St. Louis got off to an early lead -- scoring two runs in the second inning and three in the third -- and went on for a 6-4 win over Detroit at Busch Stadium (1997).
Michael Toglia drove in the game's first run with a double and Jean Carmona handled the second with a single, both off Wheelmen starter Edward Cabrera, as the River Walkers grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the second.
That lead grew to 5-0 an inning later, most of it coming on one swing of the bat from Tanner Kohlhepp, who homered for the second consecutive game.
Kyle Schwarber smacked a two-run homer off Walkers starter Jimmy Lambert in the fourth.
The Walkers got that run back with an RBI single from Michael Toglia in the sixth off reliever Nick Spear.
Detroit added single runs in the seventh and eighth, pulling to within 6-4.

But the St. Louis bullpen retired the final five Detroit batters to close it out.
Lambert (4-3) allowed two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings.

Nick Lodolo handled the rest of the sixth and all of the seventh innings.
Phil Maton and Jake Brentz both worked an inning apiece.
Brentz notched his second save.

Schwarber provided the game's only run with a two-out, 379-foot blast off River Walkers starter Steven Brault in the top of the fourth.
Greene lasted until there was one out in the eighth inning, giving up just three hits.
He struck out seven and walked one.
Jose Alvarado got the final two outs of the eighth.
The ninth belonged to Alex Claudio, who set St. Louis down in order for his 17th save.

Jonathon Holder took care of the first six innings and trio of relievers handled the rest, as Cincinnati shut out St. Louis 4-0 at Riverfront Stadium (1970).
St. Louis has now gone 20 innings without scoring.
Holder (6-4) scattered four hits during his time on the mound. He struck out seven and walked none.
Jesus Liranzo (1.2), Reyes Moronta (0.1) and Frankie Montas (1.0) didn't allow the River Walkers a baserunner over the final three innings.
The Skyline got the only run it would need in the bottom of the fourth against Walkers starter Aaron Nola (0-6).
Ronald Acuna Jr. led off the inning with a single, stole second and third on consecutive pitches and scored on a two-out wild pitch to Holder.
Francisco Mejia homered off Nolain the sixth, upping the lead to 2-0.
In the seventh, Travis Swaggerty and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led off the inning with a single and double, respectively, off Nola.
Freddie Freeman and Acuna Jr. earned RBIs with sacrifice flies off reliever Nick Lodolo.

Record: 28-37, 6th, 8.5 GB Des Moines
Freddie Freeman hit a solo homer and Francisco Mejia had an RBI double as Cincinnati scored twice in the bottom of the second inning and cruised to a 7-1 win over St. Louis at Riverfront Stadium (1970).
Both the runs came off River Walkers starting pitcher Alex Faedo.
Mejia's double scored Derek Fisher, who had followed Freeman's long ball with a triple.
Freeman scored again in the fourth, leading off with a double off Faedo and scoring on an Ronald Acuna Jr. single.
St.Louis got its lone run in the fifth off Skyline starter Kirby McIntyre.
Jean Carmona drew a walk to leadoff the inning and scored on an Alek Thomas sacrifice fly.
That run snapped a 24-inning scoreless streak for the Walkers.
Pinch-hitter Trent Grisham had an RBI double off reliever Caleb Ferguson in the seventh.
The Skyline added three more in the eighth.

Freeman, Derek Fisher and Mejia all had RBI doubles in the inning.
Cincinnati starter Kirby McIntyre worked five innings, allowing one run on two hits.
Jon Gray handled the sixth and seventh inning.
Reyes Moronta (0.2 IP) and Frankie Montas (0.1) combined to handle the eighth.
Patrick Corbin worked around a pair of hits in the ninth to end it.

St. Louis hit four home runs in a rare offensive outburst as it defeated Cincinnati 10-4 at Riverfront Stadium (1970).
The victory enabled the River Walkers to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Skyline.
Tanner Kohlhepp got things going for St. Louis with a two-run shot off Cincinnati starter Jake Junis in the first inning.
An inning later, Jean Carmona made it 3-0 with a lead-off solo homer off Junis.
Bo Bichette singled to lead off the fifth and scored on a Alek Thomas single to make it 4-0.
Cincinnati scored three times against Walkers starting pitcher Argenis Batista in the bottom of that inning to pull within 4-3.
But Romy Gonzalez broke it open with a grand slam in the seventh off reliever Jon Gray, highlighting a five-run inning as the Walkers went up 9-3.
Jared Thomas provided the final long ball, a solo homer off Corbin Burnes in the eighth.
Batista (3-5) worked six innings, allowing three runs on five hits.
John Curtiss handled a quiet seventh.
Kenley Janssen took care of the eighth but grew tired in the ninth giving up a two-out run.
Phil Maton struck out the only batter he faced, Logan Simmons, to put a cap on it.
