With funds still on the scarce side, the Waffletown GM is trying to set expectations for the fans not to hope for any blockbuster deals for a superstar player prior to the start of the regular season. He was able to acquire a slight upgrade in the bullpen in an early morning deal:
80 pp - CL - Joe Berry (1944) - 69 Johnny Allen has been sent to the reserves to make room. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Berry_(pitcher) |

thanks.... it was actually an idea I got for my FB page.... got tired of seeing some of the b.s. clogging my social media feed, so starting tomorrow (with a pre-uniform # guy) and every day from April 1 through September 30, I'm going to post a pic/brief comment about someone who played for the Cardinals, with the only stipulation that their jersey number match the date.... got 150+ players already planned out, so should be fun.
combine that with some of the posts here that I see once in awhile commenting that someone around these part had no idea who *insert old player name* was.... so figured I'd toss out some real history to go with the old timey team.... Last edited by stl jason; 04-02-2019 at 09:48 AM. |

The final day of the pre-season is upon us and the Waffletown Syrups are getting ready for their placement into the Iron league. In the early morning hours of Sunday, the Waffletown GM was sipping on his coffee while perusing the waiver wire and spotted a potential deal. He remained patient and waited as the timer ticked away with no offers and finally jumped in with the only bid to pick up:
3B - Freddie Lindstrom (1928) - 85, for 4000 pp Tony Cuccinello has been moved to the reserve roster to make room. This should be the final roster move before the regular season begins tomorrow, as the team is down to 169 points remaining in the war chest. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/b4f653b8 |

While it was a blowout game with little positive to reflect for the Syrups in the box score (0 runs and only 3 hits; vs their opponent's 8 runs and 19 hits); there was one happy occurrence on the defensive side for a nice little infusion of funds:

Thanks to the triple play infusion of funds, the GM of Waffletown was able to pick up another last minute addition to the squad before the regular season begins. They have added the "Iron Man" to the squad:
SP - Joe McGinnity (1903) - 82, for 1849 pp Freddie Fitzsimmons has been sent to the reserves to make room on the roster. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/f75cf09d |

Your theme has me interested. I've been collecting Charles Conlon photos for years and have a complete set of baseball cards published by The Sporting News, Marketcom, World Wide Sports, and Megacards of older players from 1904 to 1942.
I'm thinking that it might be fun to populate a team that only had cards taken by Conlon - but not sure if that would be possible. Would also have to decide if I wanted to pay to expand (I think I would have to) or try and do it for free. Any suggestions? |

whatever theme you pick, just make it one that really interests you and will hold your attention (as well as being viable with the available pool of players) |

The inaugural season for Waffletown is underway and the Syrups find themselves placed in the AC West division of the Iron League. The team is off to an up-and-down start with a 10-9 record; but there are plenty of games remaining for the team to find its groove.
The Waffletown GM snapped up a small upgrade to the squad while scanning over the waiver wire and brought aboard: SS - Joe Sewell (1921) - 76, for 444 pp (narrator's commentary: while 84 avoid K is a great rating for most players, your humble narrator thinks it's too low for Sewell, with his career AB per K rate of 62.56, second only to Keeler's 63.17; and almost 20 points ahead of the 3rd place entry. He should be off the charts 100+ in avoid K). Johnny Berardino has been sent to the reserves to make room. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/94842ba3 |
