Contract maximum limit exceeded

Could somebody explain what contract maximum limit exceeded means. I don't know if its the way its worded or i'm a senior who is slowly losing it.

NHL teams for example can only have 50 players (I think!?) under contract at any given time. Go to your team's roster screen and click the "contracts" tab. Then you can see how many players you have contracted at the bottom of the screen, i.e. 50/50 or 47/50 or whatever.

I fixed the issues with too many players under contract, but now when
I try to sign a free agent I get the same message even thou I have enough money to sign him. Thanks for your input.

In real life Teams have more then 50 Players under contract some are on Junior Teams or on Loan and in this Game can only change Rule on July 1st and have to do it in Commissioner Mode and in OTTP don't have to be in Commissioner Mode/can do it all year round change League Rules.
Another thing that like ÑHL doesn't do in real life that this Game needs is full Minor League System.

I am having the same issue but what is frustrating is 4 players I am not renewing their contract so they will be gone... yet I am stuck with this darn contract issue.

edit: demoting a couple juniors fixed it until I get room to move them back up.

You can't have more than 50 players under contract. Juniors will buy you a little time. However if you run into too much trouble, turn on Commissioner Mode and edit a few players into Free Agency.

I'm at 48/50 but the game won't let me claim anyone on waivers.
